I sold my brand new 285 Duratracs to another 3rd gen owner. She's doing a mild lift on an '02 and it's exactly what she wants. I've decided that I want to go with something much lighter and am going to put it in to either a set of f(x) Pro's or other goodies.

It got stuck in 4WD a couple of days ago so after putting the 4th gen back together and getting it out of the garage I got the 3rd gen in and pulled the switches off the transfer case - front one cleaned up and it goes back and forth like butter!

New Toyota oem LBJs. Replaced worn out (Moogs) and both with broken grease boots after only about 40kmiles. They went bad after only 20k miles!!! Never again!:trophy:

I also put her winter boots on. It's raining and barely above freezing right now so tomorrow may be a bit sketchy. She'll sleep in the garage tonight and the 4th gen can stay outside.

Also gave the interior a much-needed cleaning and I found a box that had an OEM rear wiper arm and blade, so I put those on as well. Pulled the 3rd brake light and gave it a couple of coats of clear to clean things up.

Here's my drain plug.. should I be worried about the shavings lol?

That's a lot of sludge...I didn't get that much even when I couldn't verify last time my fluid was changed, oil was dark black but with minimal sludge....could have been driven 90-100k miles based on dealer records.

Are those larger chunks of metal in there? Someone more qualified will know.

check beneath the left rear interior panel for either a white or yellow plastic piece. they originally came with a rubber flapper that allowed air to move out of the interior, but stopped dirt/dust from coming in. will look like this: you can clearly see the old one (left) is missing the rubber flapper.

you might be able to see it by looking down beneath the left rear bumper from the outside.

if you replace it, go with a later model 3rd gen as it will have a port for placing wires through. the white ones for the earlier models do not have this feature.

50k miles or more could look like that. Hypoid gears shed some metal -- that's just what they do.

Drain the oil again in another 10k and see how it looks. Ought to just be a bit after only a 10k interval. If there's a lot, you may have a problem.

I had that also when I replaced my seals and bearings. I also found a bunch of shavings right behind the axle seal after I pulled them, glad I was able to get that stuff out.

Passed a smog test today, literally with flying colors - the tech was well impressed.

I did nothing special to prep for the test except make sure I had no pending codes and my emissions were well below the Average Emissions for Passing Vehicles

But they're greaseable, can't you just pump more grease into them?

My $10 Grill Mod

Wanted center section of grill out to french in a couple LED spots (next).

Cut, dremel, & fill with favorite A+B stuff. Sand. Paint:

$10 universal aluminum mesh. Cut, shape, bend:

Epoxy flanges, vinyl cutter old school TOYOTA, put on a Maluna cooler badge, zip ties of course:

Zip tie install. I'm a clip breaker:

Replaced top rear brake light (which i might add, makes a great stash spot, assuming you can vacuum seal whatever contraband you put in there).

Got my valve cover gaskets, plug caps, and cam caps in the mail today. Had the parts department order me plugs from the toyota dealer down the street.
After a quick google, amazon search, and what not all I can find are single post plugs? but reading on here on a a few other places mention double post plugs?
What the dealer sent me are Denzo K16TR11 plugs that have double post, anyone know if these are correct??
Want to double check before I dig into the job tonight after work.
