TACO WHIP! It has only been in my toolbox for about 5 years so I decided today was the day. For bonus points I took the time to route it exactly where the stock cable was. I also got to use my custom machined nuts to removal and install.

Manual hubs

Effen sahweet! Last night I ordered the parts for mine. Aisin hub, bearings, lock ring, seals. Then I'll go to the junkyard and find a nice set of knuckles to put em all in. Then I'll have a bunch of parts sitting around that I won't have time to assemble... but this should move high up the list of priorities seeyin as it's a safety feature for when I go out in tha boonies. Don't want to get stuck with a blown CV!!

Find an independent adjuster in your area, and retain them. The last time I had to argue with an insurance company, that's what I did. By the time he was done with them, they were grateful to write me a check for a couple of grand more than I paid for the vehicle...

As he said to me at the time, "You don't do this every day. I do, and they know it...".

Yup, it's already turning into a battle. 2 local shops have looked at the truck and said it needs a rack, wheel bearing and alignment. Their estimates are close, right around $2400. geico asshat adjuster claims he can only authorize $1600. geico also doesn't want to repair the running board or the wheel, they want me to take a "damage adjustment" and live with the slight damage. I have my truck in my possession and they're still paying for the rental

Finish installing both side upper and lower ball joint. Then decided to install the Bilstein 5100 with OME 890 rear and 881 front.

Cleaned her up and took off the old glue from the badges that have fallen off... lol. At least there aren't a bunch of half letters of glue now. [emoji2369]

went ahead and tried to installed the TBU i got from amazon. after finishing one side and started working on the other side, we noticed a leak from what thought was the brake line going into the caliper. turned out...it was coming from the under side where the pads go where both side of the calipers meet. Not the 4R is down, didnt want to swap all the parts for the new. The seller is shipping out some new ones. Cross my fingers theyre good to go.

Hopefully once thats done, I can swap out my LBJs and install my new bumpstops.

Well that stinks!

This reminds me, I did go out and bed in my 199mm TBU brakes this past weekend. I like the brakes, they seem fine with no more vibration, but of course I would have achieved the same effect simply with new 4Runners rotors. Just hoping that these won't warp, given the huge extra thickness.

We'll see how they behave when I have to make a panic stop, something that I'm sure will happen sooner than later here in LA :).

Tore down the E-locker axle I picked up last week, gear change in the making, replacing seals, prepping for paint. It's in real good shape 127k miles all thats on it.

Did the TBU this weekend and along the way proved that 13WH (Lexus GX470) calipers and 338mm rotors do not work. I caught a thread over on pirate4x4 and decided to give it a try. I have GX470 wheels on my runner so clearance and so forth wouldn’t be a problem. The issue is that when mounted, the distance from the tabs to caliper centerline isn’t enough to clear the rotors properly (too shallow). I did find success with reman 13WL’s and factory tundra rotors. Bled the brakes and having none of the pedal issues some have reported previously. Found out I really dislike the vacuum bleeder 1 man method and went back to the ole pump brake and wedge an axe handle between pedal and steering wheel method...works every time!

Kinda sorta 4Runner related since it will be in it 90% of the time.

Programmed a Baofeng with a generic Serial cable through Chirp on a Mac. Was NOT easy getting it to work because of a driver issue. Now it’s perfect.IMG_2946.jpg
