Nice what kit did you get?

Removed the skinny roof rack crossmembers and removed seats getting ready to reupholster them.

I hesitate to say... the kit that gets less than no love around here.

I hadn't planned on putting Rough Country parts on my truck after reading opinions here, but someone local had the complete kit up on CL for less than half the (already inexpensive) price - I couldn't pass up the opportunity to give my ride a nice stance on the cheap.

The way I'm looking at it is that its a "starter kit" basically. My truck has a better stance, and I can upgrade components as I want to/ as my budget allows.

I did finish it up last night (actually only installed the coils and spacers, because I believe the existing shocks in the rear are actually Skyjackers, and I'm guessing they are higher quality than RC), and my unexperienced self actually thinks it rides/handles better than it did on just 99 talls.

The next components to go on will be a diff drop, panhard drop, and all new sway bar links/ bushings.

Ordered/installed new seat foam for drivers seat bottom from Camelback -about 1hr to complete.

Also straightened steering wheel by loosening/removing column slip-yoke 12mm bolts (not shaft plate bolts), rotated then re-torqued 26lbs - under 10 mins to complete.

Meh I’m sure it will be fine, especially if you got the kit for a killer deal.. better than using blocks and such.. pictures?

Man the seat foam is so expensive! I got a kit off eBay to reupholster the front seats and then I realized I should replace the foam too but the foam was more expensive than the leather kit! Lol.. so I watched some YouTube videos and found a really cool method to repair the seat foam for under 50$.. hope it works good, going to try tonight.

Came back from the machine shop all pretty, reinstalled the valves with new seals back in one head today before running out of time-

Looks like it is going smoothly. Any roadblocks?

I have to ask how hard you think installing the valve seals would be with the heads ON? I have changed them out on a Scion but never on a 5vz. I have entertained the idea of just taking the head off myself and taking it to the machine shop.

No roadblocks so far, thank goodness! Having studied and after doing more research I do believe this head gasket is not original after all, there are two holes in it where a truck from 12/1995 should have no holes if I'm reading correctly. I have had the truck for very nearly 200,000 miles and since 2005.
Ah, well.

I did the keepers with the heads off and that wasn't hard. The machine shop pulled the old ones with their handy dandy special pliers so all I had to do was seat the new ones with a little lube and a 10mm socket. Having the heads off made it very easy to pull the valve springs and later compress for keepers and re-install. With heads on? I am way too noob to answer that one!

I wish I would have found that youtube video for under $50. I figured the foam is only going up in price and with 270k miles on the pad I was fully committed.
I even re-used most the hog rings. I had originally attempted to do the passenger swap but got gun shy with the sensors on the passenger side. Camelback said the foam is discontinued and sent me a newer version which identical in size/shape but in limited supply. Only difference is it did not have the wire embedded in the front/top creases for the hog rings. It doesn't need them with the hog rings on the bottom.

I ordered everything on amazon: a 2”x18”x18” piece of automotive foam for 12$, an electric turkey carver for 11$, and spray foam glue #74 by 3m for 25$

Cut the piece of seat that is ‘dead foam’ and then cut a piece of the new foam. Spray glue onto the seat and the new piece of foam wait for the glue to get ‘tacky’ feeling and stick them together good. Then carve it to shape with the turkey carver

Last week got my front windows retinted. . I guess that even though some years with privacy glass, the fronts were not done. Previous owner had the fronts tinted. they were in bad shape so had redone. Shop confirmed rest of glass in 4 runner is tinted glass ( not a film)
since I have noticed several 99 and 2000 with no tinted front door glass.

There are not any vehicles sold that have factory noticeably tinted front driver and passenger side glass. Just look at the label...AS1 clear no light transmission reduction....AS2 30% light transmission reduction....AS3 80-85% light transmission reduction. None are exact but numbers are close.

I installed a new switch panel since I was running out of room, and put a new 150A bus bar in to replace the old one. I had lost the cover and wanted to make sure the bar was not the limiting factor in the circuit.

Picked up my ride from mechanical repairs from being hit last week. The shop just replaced inner tie rods then realigned. They swear that the wheel bearing isn't damaged, its a dragging caliper. I'm not 100% convinced yet.

I had a 2017 Rouge for the past 10 days. I wouldn't personally buy one but it sure was a huge difference driving something that had comfy heated seats and got 30 MPG, then climbing back into my 20 year old truck.

I installed a new switch panel since I was running out of room, and put a new 150A bus bar in to replace the old one. I had lost the cover and wanted to make sure the bar was not the limiting factor in the circuit.

Yep, I did! I stopped by his shop last week to pick up the switch panel and a blank. He showed me around too...it's a pretty sweet place.
