What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I finally figured out where my electrical problem was originating.
I had intermittent rear window, A/T gear selector, brake light and 10 amp STOP fuse issues. Turns out the wiring harness from body to rear door had worn through 4 wires. Spliced, reinforced and replaced brake light bulbs, all 3, 10 amp fuse and replaced gear selector over ride button cover.
Everything works great agin.
That has been bugging me for 3 weeks.
I used this forum a lot to help find the problem. I was on my way to look at the trailer wire harness but decided to pull the boot back on the door harness and there it was.
Thanks for the help and I hope this helps someone else locate the source of the problem.

Installed the Satoshi Grill Mod that I've been working on for 3 days

I've been wanting to do this mod for a while and finally did it. Bought a 96 grill from PartsGeek.com and the prefab grill with Toyota logo from CustomCarGrills.
Cutting the grill and applying bondo then smoothing it out is the most laborious part of the whole process. I went the lazy route in painting and just used black Plasti Dip. Happy with the result but man, I should have just bought one from SRQ fabrications especially they have the group buy offer that closed about a week ago.

Replaced all the various front ABS line brackets. Mine were all pretty rusty. New one is Arizona junkyard fresh with a quick shot of black spray paint.

You guys who live in the sunshine states sure are lucky.

Champion CC1998 installed as preventative (no clue on prior history), along with silicone hoses and Zerex Asian coolant. Still have to cut/bend the tabs that allow the radiator to hang there before installing bolts, and while the bolts didn't line up absolutely dead perfect I needed make no alterations to get it installed.

I am curious to know what coolant temps you are seeing now after the Champion install.

Welded the Stubbs HD-SKO's on and integrated them into one of the rear flairs. Have to do the other rear flair and I'm still waiting for the front flair cap that covers the running board gap. I'm surprised the welds came out OK looking in spite of all the clearance/angle issues getting in there.

what do you mean cut and bend tabs,
your build tread looks like off to a good start

Temps are controlled by the thermostat, so zero change. But Torque reads 185F on the top end and it's not Nearly warm enough here in Georgia to se anything more.

Watch the video. There are 2 tabs that, when made right, allow the radiator to hang on the radiator support. They're located about 1/3rd of the way down from the top 2 bolt points. Unlike the video, I didn't find the rivnuts to be a threat to come out, they were Obviously well mushroomed into place. And some others have mentioned that the holes don't line up with the OEM radiator support and I can see that as mine were very close to needing some adjustment (running a file through the support holes to oval them a little, would only need it done to one or maybe two holes).

Anyway, for those hang tabs, I'd originally considered making them function correctly but then shrugged and grabbed the hacksaw and file. 30 seconds later the issue was resolved and it looks like they were never there.

The thermostat controls the minimum operating temperature. Once the thermostat is fully open, the cooling system (radiator and fan) determine the actual operating temperature that you'll see. I think LittleCaesar is asking whether the larger radiator has lowered your operating temperatures on a nice hot day, sounds like you don't have that data yet (?).

:redbrick: I'm an idiot.

Nope, no data as I've only driven about 2 miles total (up and down the driveway to my in-laws for Easter dinner last night), and temps are only just getting into the 80's consistently.

that's what I was wondering as well, not low temps, but the upper range, like crawling up a hill etc, lower operating temps can help the tranny too

Today I picked up a 1999 SR5 Highlander in black that was my sister in laws. Southern truck with a complete service history with around 130,000 miles.
Picked up a Kenwood DDX 9705 double din DVD player/Apple CarPlay/Android Auto head unit from Best Buy as well. Just need to order two pairs of 6.5 speakers and perhaps an amplifier and subwoofer.

Had an LX470 for almost a decade prior that was an awesome rig albeit struggled to break 10 MPG.
Tried to upload pics, but guessing it failed due to post count.

I would be curious to know. I know that other members have had zero problems using the Champion. Having been in the South all its life I have found that burping the cooling system well has brought my coolant temps to 188f 90% of the time.

No pics... but the past few days, I've finished up the "bodywork" I did to repair the rust I had on my passenger side rear quarter panel. Detailed the paint, serviced the brakes, repainted my drums, and did some touch ups on the tire carrier.

I celebrated by taking it out for it's maiden voyage of 2019.... and then parked it back in the Taj Garage.

In the next few months, I've got some work to do on the underside of my rig. Noticed the stock skid plate is rotting off... and my rear backing plates for the brakes are looking bad too.

I'm probably going to replace those, upgrade my wheel cylinders, and work on removing the rust from the rear diff, and repaint it with Chassis paint.

On a side note... the wife's Civic also got some loving. I ended up polishing and waxing it. I also installed some new wheels onto the car, and waxed them up to protect the coating.

I will be replacing my battery with an AGM soon.

Any issues with the alarm system and replacing the battery? Just a simple battery disconnect old and install new?

My T4R is new to me and it gives me the heebie jeebies to think replacing the battery will somehow deactivate the ignition.

Thanks,

Eddie

New AGM battery today and drove for the first time in a month or two.

Nope, Eddie, you should have zero problems.
