3rd gen sensor problem
I'm stuck and need help please!!! (bold letters is the problem)
I have a 2002 4runner limited 4x4.
Things I've done "mechanically":
- new engine (same 5vz-fe) 8 months ago
- cold air intake 4 months ago
- new catalytic converters 2 years ago
My check engine light has been on for about a year now and it's code p1130. It still ran flawlessly just wanted to get rid of the code since I have emissions due Sunday. So 2 nights ago I changed the bank 1 sensor 1 (or upstream) o2 sensor, with a new gasket of course. I unplugged my battery for 20ish minutes so the computer would reset and since then I've driven 250+ miles and the check engine light has not come back on so problem fixed right? NOOOO!!!!
It starts flawlessly and drives perfect the first time hitting the gas pedal, but when I get up to the speed limit then come to a stop the next time hitting the gas it lags ... ALOT. It's as if it's skipping and tachometer is skipping. It has a hesitation every other second of staying on the gas and skips/lags extremely bad when going up any incline and i'm afraid it's damaging something. please help!!!
So I've contacted many mechanics and they don't know what the problem is.
Could it be because theirs a new o2 sensor and it's just now reading the cold air intake?
I honestly don't know what to do and could really use some guidance.

OEM sensor? p1130:
"Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1 (Toyota, Lexus)"
Get a Denso if your replacement wasn't.

I'm thinking bout adding a turbo to this truck to improve power and fuel economy since the 3rd gen is a slow turd compared to my tundra and 2019 4 runner trd pro. Hopefully then I will want to seriously invest in making her into a overlander. I really like the 3rd gen but without power we will just keep using it for an in town truck

Yeah, they're somewhat sedate. And adding stuff to it (bumpers, sliders, belly skids, rack, winch, compressor) only makes them slower. And taller tires effectively drops the axle ratio (numerically) making them even slower. It all adds up. Just a matter of how much of a hurry you're in, your expectations about it being peppy going up tall mountains (especially at altitude).

I have a '98 and have the same issue. The guy we bought it from always ran hi test gas and we switched to regular. Then the check engine light came back on. Went back to hi test and it runs smoother more power and the light went out after a highway drive. Passed inspection. Good for another year! :reddance::reddance:

Hello from North Idaho. I just purchased this 1996 T4R from Canada. Has anyone seen a lift like this before? Seems to sit much higher then most I've seen. I think its a 4" but not sure. Anyone seem one like this before?

Last night she hit 400000 miles. Today I did rear shoes and drums and installed new moog "99 tall" rear springs. I think I got my moneys worth from the originals.
Probably do the fronts in a week or 2 now.
Also installed a rear window switch on the inside if the hatch for camping

Seems like it's misfiring. I also had p1130 and replaced the o2 sensor and the truck started misfiring with no codes for a while. finally checked for pending codes and cylinder 3 injector was the culprit replaced it with a refurbished injector didn't solve the issue. finally replaced it with oem and all good.
[MENTION=449039]wolf1776[/MENTION] That is a top strut spacer lift with rear coil spacers. Pretty cheap and basic for people that want the height of a lift and don't really care about suspension articulation. I've never seen one with what looks like an upper ball joint spacer as well. It looks like ther is an extra piece between the top of the spindle and the upper control arm where the ball joint attaches, You can remove the spacers (including the funky upper ball joint spacer) and be back at normal ride height, or replace it with better suspension components.

Did a red led swap. Went with SBL leds. Pics make it look pinkish/purple but it’s blood red from the drivers seat.

Took the dented drivers side door off and removed the McNeil Fiberglass fenders to prep for paint.
This is my first 4Runner so, on top of fixing all the shoddy work I inherited, I’m also learning the truck. Can anybody tell me how the bottom of the side lights are supposed to mount? I see a peg and a hole but it just kinda flips there. Janky.
Once I’m deemed worthy of starting my own build thread, I’ll keep the forum posted on my progress. I got some serious plans for this beast.
I’m trying to come up with a good name for my rig. I was thinking of something original and unique like, ‘Silver Bullet’ or ‘Trail Master’ or ‘Half-Bilt-Half-Broke’
