Took her out for some fun in the Sierra's

I saw a truck that looked a lot like yours in Morongo Valley...it was snowing...maybe Christmas or the day after? I saw another one shortly after except black somewhere around Old Woman Springs road. Both had the roof basket with the flat panels on the sides but I don't remember if the racks were as long as yours. Mostly I was paying attention to the slippery stuff so didn't get as good a look as I would have liked.

Actually saw several nice 3rd gens, some being a lifted black across from the Denny's in Mojave, also a couple of pretty silvers, can't recall where the first one was, the second was parked at a home on the Navajo res nearish Tuba, NM? AZ? Very sweet. Very jealous of all the lack of rust in general!

The only one I wasn't a fan of was a maybe black (kinda dark) 3rd gen at Zion NP campground with every single light blazing, including ditch lights, lighting up half of the place on New Year's eve. We kept hoping it was just until they got set up. They thankfully turned everything off at 10p- and they weren't obnoxiously loud which was very nice- just very very bright.

We might have done a thing...MO OK TX NM AZ CA NV UT. The most we got out of one tank was 740 miles. We weren't driving a 4Runner this go-round.

Finally got around to opening presents today, thanks to my awesome husband I have a new project for the little blue truck. It was really hard not looking at it for the couple of weeks it was in the living room (his idea of wrapping was telling me not to look at the box).

Just got OEM oil filter, fuel filter, plugs and coils, etc in the mail. Time for an oil change and some maintenance.

Dyed the front bumper (just like I replanted the Ficus). Looks good.

Now, will it stand the test of time is all that needs to be answered.

I'm not expecting forever like the product name says, but a couple years and I'd be thrilled.

As a note to anyone doing this: Do not reuse a foam brush if the original brush has time to dry. I did this with the sky facing piece and it prevents the dye was going on smoothly. From 10 feet, you'll never notice it, but up close it presents fine application lines. Used a new brush on the lower bumper and it went on smoothly.

Erm... do you NEED premium? If not, you're paying more for something you don't need and opening yourself up for more trouble with water in fuel. Unless you're pinging/have detonation issues with lower grade fuels the increased octane offers no benefit and beyond that, there is Zero difference with the fuel. Heck, back in the day when I was a pimply-faced kid and worked at a gas station, I had to add that octane booster to the tank after the fuel delivery (same fuel went into 3 tanks, I made additions based on gallons added).

And since premium is less often bought, it sits more often and tends to be more contaminated with water, silt, and is a little more "stale" (oxidizes more).

Too many people think that "premium" means better, hate for you to be one and throw your money away.

I swapped out my OME 890 rear springs for ome 861s. After installing a rear bumper, spare tire, and hi lift, plus adding a homemade storage box to the back I developed some droop in the rear. The new springs gave me a 3" lift over the sagging 890s!

Yup, Pro Comp 7069-6883. Best of all, with the -12 offset, they put the tires about 1" further out then stock, just past the Limited flare. A much nicer look than the tucked in OEM wheel/tire combo IMO.

I like the flat black against the white truck. And at $90/wheel, it was hard to pass up.

New shocks, KYB Gas-a-just KG54317.

Got the old ones out with a 14mm deep socket/wrench to hold the nut, and a pair of channel locks to rotate the body. 5 minutes per side total - gotta love these rust free CA trucks!

Thanks Dave, actually I didn't have time to do it myself as I had a new baby a few weeks ago - but everything turned out great. I can't get over how much more fun it is to drive compared to the auto. While still not "fast" it's waaaay more responsive and enjoyable.

I still have to fix a damn squeaky clutch but otherwise I'm thrilled!

i installed my 3" lift kit from toy tech before i put in the UCA and i should have waited and done everything at once. i remember how it was not easy cramming that front coilover in with the stock UCA. My UCA is a total chaos arm and i love it.

So many mods, not enough funds, my friend haha. Still gotta pull the funds for a front/back bumper, tires, and wheels out of my magician's hat before February. I have a roadtrip planned half-way through March. Tuscaloosa to Austin, TX and back.

I would argue that a UCA is more important than all that stuff (if you dont need tires right away). especially if youre doing a road trip that doesnt require bumpers. its a night and day difference and your alignment and alignment tech will thank you. im surprised i see as many people with lifts and wheels/tires and theyre still rocking stock UCAs with the UBJ all cocked.

you will also thank yourself when you have to do more front end work.

Did the 1st gen roll bar mod over the weekend and just finished installing it today. Made a spare tire holder out of the toyota tire holder thingy. Should have plenty of room for 33" or maybe bigger to fit back there. Took about 4 hours. Onto the pics.

Edit to add - I cut the carpet to mount to metal. As I have to pull carpet again to add a access hatch when I finish the f150 tank swap. Also don't mind the bald jankey spare it's all I have for now.

New Ebay fat lip front bumper

Opened the box and and shed a tear....another project.... Starting the process of retrofitting a fatlip on a 97'. It's gonna cost me more in reinforcement brackets, covers, grommets, and plastic popper things, then it did to purchase the 9 piece bumper from Autodepot... :gun4:

Too bad you don't have a '98 limited, I'd HAPPILY swap my fat-lip for a chrome bumper.
