Saved a chevy

I pulled a Silverado out of the snow. I just happened to be driving by and helped him out. When I was putting the strap away, his girlfriend/wife was laughing and said "I can't believe you got pulled out by a little Toyota!" LMAO

Installed my new OEM steering rack this morning, heading to get alignment done this afternoon. already feels buttery smooth! no noise anywhere!

What symptoms did you have that led to replacing your steering rack? Resolved?

ah just a few things. it was leaking on the passenger side. was unable to get rid of a clink after replacing inner + outer tie rods (no sway bar so that wasn't the clink). and steering just plain felt loose.

after I installed the new one, i had a local shop (ADCO Power Steering) attempt to rebuild the old one. they said the rack was misaligned due to worn seals on both ends, which in turn bent the rack causing constant rocking over every bump.

I may buy a new rail to install and rebuild it myself now that I have an entire spare.

I've had the steering pump flushed twice in 100K due to it whining for about 15 secs in our super duper austin winters, haha.

Has been quite but I decided to do a cheap 'suck & fill' with a turkey baster.

Here is a pic of how dark the fluid was, sun can't even shine thru it!

Is this a common problem? I just bought a 99 and it whines when I first start it up for just a few seconds. It’s worse when it’s cold outside. I knew it was something related to the belt accessories, but this is a good place to start.

Yes, there is a filter screen in the bottom of the reservoir that gets clogged and restricts the flow starving the pump. You don't need to start the car, just lift the front end so the tires are off the ground and turn the steering wheel back and forth.

Got mine back from the dealer the other day. It needed an ECU and has for quite some time. Runs like a whole different truck. Had them replace shifter bushings while it was there so now the key doesn't stick when turning off and the shifter feels tight and new.
Now the big ticket is out of the way, on to smaller more exciting upgrades.

5th gen t4r ARB bumper on 3rd gen

So this was all made possible by my friend dewalt sawzall and big F ing hammer. I got a 5th gen arb bumper for $200 (came with wrong mounts and dude didnt want it) so I set into making it fit my 1998. Had to make a few cuts and weld some spacers on the frame but it's on there now. Traded some ammo for a new warn 10k winch and smittybuilt synthetic line. So all in I have about $350 in my setup. Thanks man. I had to mount the winch on top of the bumper because it hit the radiator when mounted behind the bumper.

Bought some gator skin vinyl from joann fabrics and re did my arm rests and center console lid. My first time doing any type of upholstery work.

Those look like some manual BMW leather sport seats. Heres a picture of my BMW with the manual seats. If they are BMW seats the extendable thigh support and the side bolsters are what gave it away. They look great

Took the rear seat bottoms out for the first time (seriously) and was amazed by the now flat and massive cargo space. Then went and picked up a 36x34 side by side fridge and was able to close the hatch, albeit with my knees up to the steering wheel. These trucks never cease to amaze me!

Same question! The oem are way overpriced, but a lot of reviews on aftermarket ones say they’re either too weak or too stiff. Would love a refresh, but if the choice is between a limp noodle or an unexpected hatch to the face, I’ll keep hunting for non-fullprice oem.
