What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Thanks for the reply! I marked the overflow tank last night and checked it this morning, noticed about 1-2inches loss but the engine was warm. I didn't find any sign of external leakage. Beginning to think this is the beginning of a head gasket leak. I would like to do a compression and maybe leak down test, but i figure I'll just pull the spark plugs, check them, and see if there is any coolant in any of the cylinders. Maybe try blue devil or bars leak.

Can I ask how many miles were on your engine when this happened? Also, what did you decide to do when you found out?

304,215 miles, a little over a year ago. I decided to learn how to change head gaskets in the driveway in the snowiest November we've ever had. Why do these things never seem to happen in nice weather? I was able to download the FSM which was extremely useful. I've done 3 timing belts, valve cover gaskets, etc, so many etc, worth of experience on this truck over the years so I'm pretty comfortable with messing around with it.
It's now got 312,477 miles on it.

Did both sides because of the mileage and glad I did. The fail was on #3, but #6 was darned close. Cylinders were still in great shape so I went for it.

There are some sneaky little places that can leak coolant and are hard to see...water pump, the hoses to and from the oil cooler on the side of the block, the small id hoses behind the engine, if you have rear heat those lines that run down the firewall...not saying by any means it's not a head gasket though- or that it is.
bars leak- no thank you is my opinion, but you know what they say about opinions...

Drove to see my old mentor named Pablo at his shop called Tandem Automotive. They build awesome toyota trucks. Thought I was going to get a T100 MC and booster but decided to order a 1976 Chevy MC to upgrade my braking system. Install coming soon!!!

Homemade custom cell phone mount...no more bouncing out of the holder while offroad:thumb:

P35 LED relay so no more hyperflash turn signals:photo:

Any pics?

Use a small piece of steel. Cut and angled to match contour of dash. Drilled a hole through it and modified a cell phone holder to run a flat screw through its back plate and secured with a nut on backside of the plate. I initially used Velcro to attach to dash but moderate offroading with weight of phone cause it to fall. So now I've removed Velcro and attached plat to dash with small screws.

Very nice! I had the same design idea, but was trying to avoid drilling through the dash. Does it seem strong enough to support the phone with just screws in the dash (I assume the plastic part of it)? I was pondering using some type of inserts to make it a bit stronger.

I should have taken photos and done a writeup...
The phone mount has a rubber washer between it and the plate. Flat lock washer between the screw and internal part of phone holder. Cap screw nut on back side. The rubber washer dampens vibration and any rattle noise. Haven't tested it off road but have driven like a maniac in my neighborhood (hitting pot holes, driving up onto curbs, etc) so far so good. I also put my phone in the holder before installing it and shook and threw it around and it held the phone the entire time. Won't be able to hit trails for a week to really test it ( maybe longer if my UCAs come in, I'd really like to get rid of tire rub).

This phone mount has a rubber back and feet that hold the phone. The side arms are pressure fit and have an angled hug like hand on each side. Small button on the backside spring releases the arms to remove phone.

Replaced my ancient spare tire with a purdy new Wildpeak A/T 3W.

I'd hate to be in the middle of the desert and have my spare fail due to age when the problem could be solved for cheap money.

Eddie

P.S. Decided to stick with the fugly steel rim as getting an alloy one was just too much hassle.

don't judge my dirty runner lol but i installed a 99+ center console and now have cup holders, yay

I let my son drive it to work. BUT, I have an opportunity to buy a '96 Limited tomorrow! I'd love some advice and opinions.

158,000 miles, been garaged. not been registered since 2018 (husband died). used as a vehicle for vacation home. Looks like it has never been vacuumed. Front leather seats torn and hammered. Probably doesn't have service records. Few dings in bumpers but no body damage. Tires have a lot of tread but probably so old they need replacing. Tranny fluid looks good. Oil a bit dirty, airfilter mostly plugged. Very minor surface rust on frame/underbody.

Going to drive it tomorrow and probably make offer. Hopefully all the 4wd systems work including rear locker. taking a creeper to do a thorough inspection.

any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks

You don't say where. Don't get caught by rust. Check out that frame. That'd be my #1 concern.

As others have said in the past, factor in a grand or two to get everything back up to tip top unless it is documented.

Stealth oil change...

Stealth oil change in a gravel pit. Hate that sh!t but what else to do on the road? I've got it down pretty fast and non-spill so I don't feel too bad about using the space for a while.

Walmart is kind enough to take used oil back so that's one thing taken care of. I wonder what they think of the Amsoil bottles? Hard to pretend I bought it there...

Hey guys I did my own timing belt and all accessories to go with it today! It was original at 265k. Replaced crank shaft and cam shaft seals too.
It took me 2 partial days and could not have done it without the help of Timmy the toolman! I am a female who loves working on this truck! I also cleaned maf sensor and replaced radiator. Going for the 300k mark this year.

Sounds like with a little tlc, you have found a good rig! Frame is the bigges issue check the weld spot on the passenger side next to the muffler. Check and see when the timing belt was done and if it has not been done, figure that into your coat to purchase.
