What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

2001 SR5 2WD Welll I replaced my lower OEM ball joints, 281,001 mi, with MOOG parts and read here that it was a mistake to use MOOG. OMG, I don’t do any off road or pull anything but mostly city driving and a dirt road sometimes. How long are these aftermarket parts going to last? Is the ball joint recall still valid?
Kind of upset dude..

Never got the hubbub over Moog. Wouldn't exactly trust them for sensitive parts but simple things work just fine I've found. I used a pair of their front/rear coils to get back to OEM height right after purchasing my 4runner, and they held up great.

4runner Lower Ball Joints are VERY sensitive parts. Extremely unfortunate design which when it fails causes a tire to fall off!

Moog is OK for sway bar links - not for LBJs.

My Toytec Ultimate coilovers arrived on Friday. Looks like they were labeled by toytec on the bottom of the coilovers for driver & passenger side. May wait to install these since my LBJ have about 75k, I will probably order new lbj & replace them a little earlier than planned & do everything together.

How big of a difference do you see in ride quality?

Oddly enough the truck seems louder haha. I think the NVH increased a bit, but I like feeling a bit more connected to the road surface. It's been a solid change, the truck is less 'floaty' feeling than it was on the old, worn out bushings. Definitely worth it in my eyes, the Energy kit was also about 1/5 the price of going OEM.

Update: Finally finished, here's the final product! A little time consuming since I wanted it to be perfect, and it was my first time making my own. Worth it, in my opinion, saved a lot of $$$.

Very nice, you are a couple of days ahead of me, I'm installing the same mesh (from customcargrilles, right?). Did you attach it with Goop to the frame?

I also considered making my own letters, but seems like too much of a pain, so I'll probably go with the emblem, like you.

Also, what are you thinking for raptor lights? I'm considering them as well, but any intel you could share would be great.

I've noticed that with various parts I have been getting. Made all over Asia. Denso spark plugs are no longer Japan, Indonesia now.

I got a set of LBJs from Camelback 3 months back and I am 99% sure they were still Japan. I will check, they are in storage right now. I recall looking at the time and I didn't get upset so they must have been Japan still.

Nothing....yet. Daughters 96 3.4 is throwing code P0301 again. She had boyfriend install new Amazon coil packs, plug wires, and NGK plugs and thing was still running poorly. I ran the codes again, same one, P0301. I figure it must the injector-haven't been home yet to check out. What are the recommendations for injector brand? Was likely going to go with something from RockAuto. I cant break the bank on this. Also what is the recommendation for oring kit. The Felpro comes with 4 orings. 2 per injector correct? Or go with the Beck/Arnley kit that has all rubber parts for each injector? I am new to injector work.

Drilled and tapped new skid plate bolts today since my last ones broke off a while back.

Also received these in the mail for next week’s project. Both say made in Japan.

Finally got around to extending my rear diff breather.

Pulled the air filter out to check my Unifoam filter. That's one idea that really works, thanks [MENTION=148218]JZiggy[/MENTION]. Unifoam was filthy but my OEM is still nice and clean. That's with about 7,000 km on it. Quite a bit of desert dust earlier and now the mess that the winters sand has left all over town.

FYI, I am fuel economy particular and I saw no difference over that distance with the additional filter.

Sweet! Yes I like this mod too. I find I can clean it at oil changes (5k miles) and it is just a little grubby with mostly city driving. I’ve probably serviced it 6+ times and it’s holding up well.

Thanks Leon, and yes I ordered the mesh from customcargrilles haha, I used goop to secure the mesh to the frame, I went heavy on the goop to make sure it doesn't come off and I also made sure it doesn't overflow. Waited a day for it to cure and it's pretty damn solid!

Not much videos on raptor light installation for a 3rd gen but I've seen pictures and I'm figuring the wiring shouldn't be too bad. I was gonna go with these off of amazon Amazon.com: Grand General 77650 Amber Thin Line 6-LED Marker and Clearance Sealed Light, Amber/Amber: Automotive

Almost 6 years into my ownership, and I just realized that the earlier 3rd gens (1996-2000) received a fuel cap holder. For the 2001-2002 models, Toyota omitted it unfortunately. It always made me feel crappy when I had to lay the cap on the body when filling up.

I got in touch with DeathCougar and he was able to supply an original painted IJM fuel door off a 2000. It was important that it was original paint, as I didn't want to introduce repainted parts on my original IJM paint. Paint shades will most certainly be off.
A huge effort for a small gain, but it follows along with my 'restomod' theme. Thanks to DeathCougar for helping.

Took the opportunity to fluid film the bolts and hinge. Oh, and if anyone is curious, the 2001-2002 fuel cap does fit perfectly on the holder.
