Man, sorry to hear that. That’s a shame. Hope you are ok, guessing the elk is not. My new to me 4Runner has never seen salt but certainly will be in its new home in Pennsylvania. Full oil undercoat with NHOU. One pic of rear differential attached

Thanks man. We came out unscathed and the damage isn't too bad. Just hope I can find a good body shop to get her looking good again. The elk bounced off us and an oncoming car hit it head on and was basically totaled. It still managed to run off but I can't imagine it survived.
I'm a Pennsylvania native and don't miss those rust issues. I'd take a whitetail collision over an elk collision any day though. Good call on the undercoating.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like it could have been worse. Im sure you’ll find a good shop. Today installed SPC upper control arms and brake fluid flush.

Posted a couple days ago about many wires being broke in rear hatch interchange area. Had 6 broken wires and 4 that were bare... Rear defrost, plate lights, 3rd brake light and wiper were non functional yo.
Glad to say after today we are back to fri-kin-mint. I soldered all 6 breaks then shrink tubed them. Just gave the worn ones a wrap or 2 of tape and good to go. I had to remove the back plastic trim around the rear light. That gave me access to the underside of the wire loom. I pulled out a holding clip and stripped back some insulation to give me some wiggle room. Went at it with the strippers, solder gun and shrink tube and it came out great. I work best in tight spaces anyway...:boink:
The clip inside was a total PITA to get out. I scratched the heck out of the paint there. I am working outside in nearly freezing temps so that did not help but a little embarrassed of the damage I did. I normally am way better than that but got impatient. None of it will be seen but you know...other than that I am very happy to have that done!

Nice Job, those wires are a pain in the ass being so short and under that rubber boot. I still have some broken wires in there. I need to commit and dive into the problem. Im not even sure whats not working from the broken wire.

Looks amazing!
What are the specs on your tires? Any wheel spacers?

"Old School" foot operated dimmer switch

My Sweet Wife gave me a nice 30" LED light bar from Tractor Supply a couple years ago. I mounted it on top of the front bumper back in the grill. I removed the bottom part of the grill so it mounts flush. A really good light.
I use it frequently at night on little country roads in Kentucky. Obviously I switch it off when I see headlights which brings me to this mod..........The "old school" cars & trucks had the dimmer switch mounted to the floor (showing my age). That always worked well.....SO.....I got one at the auto parts shop and installed to switch my light bar. Just had to trim a small semi-circle of carpet and it fit great. Wish I had done that when I put the light bar on. SO HANDY!

Foot Switch continued

In case any of Y'all haven't seen one of these before - commonly found in cars before the mid 1980's......

The old dimmer switch on the floor was so nice, need to put that one on the mod list after I get this last mess finished. How useful, to have it control your lightbar. Good one.

The "old school" cars & trucks had the dimmer switch mounted to the floor...

Had one of those on my 52 Chevy truck, you just hopped no one was coming downhill while you were double-clutching to go up hill. :D But even my '66 Beetle has the dimmer on the turn signal stalk.

As for your lightbar, I would have personally used a trigger wire from the high beams to a relay to power the lightbar. Not like you'll ever use it without high-beams and that makes it 1-switch to dim everything vs the 2-step shuffle of hitting the floor dimmer and light stalk.

With the help of a local toyota/Suzuki builder who has a shop and some welding skills. Got my 4x4 tranny/tcase in. Trail gear crossmember tcase skid plate welded up to frame... now to start building a front axle.

Also thanks to DeathCougar and HiLife for coming through with some parts I couldn't find locally.

Refinished the wheels on my 2000

The wheels on my 4Runner were corroded and very discolored. The previous owner didn't really care for them much. This past weekend I decided to try refinishing them. I watched a few videos and decided that I'd follow these steps:

- Pressure wash
- Sand with a variety of grits and steel wool
- A single coat Rustoleum primer
- Two coats of Rustoleum paint

This is one of the wheels after pressure washing it.

Rusty lugs. I soaked them in a mixture of vinegar and baking soda for about 6 hours. They came out looking much better.

After sanding it down...

Primer coat. My first time using a spray can... not very uniform, but I had decided before starting that I wasn't going to fret over imperfections. Anything would be better than the corroded looking wheels.

So I bought the Rustoleum winter gray color. I thought it'd be a good match with the silver body... but boy was this paint ugly.

I went back to the store to pick up something darker. The dark gray-ish primer color was actually looking pretty good, but unfortunately the store only Duplicolor had satin black. This picture is after two coats and drying time. I didn't bother with a clear coat.

Overall, I am happy with the results. I wanted to go for something more stock... but this is growing on me!

The pictures aren't showing up for me for some reason, here's the link to imgur album: 4Runner wheel refinish - Album on Imgur

Installed differential drop kit. Disappointed on the outcome. Cannot tell a difference on the CV angles. Looks pretty much exactly the same. Going to review it tomorrow. Maybe remove it. That sucks.
