What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Personally, I would go with the dealer. Far too many clones on eBay and I have found that out the hard way (multiple times).
Check with Olathe Toyota or McGeorge Toyota to see what they can offer. Their prices are better than Camelback, even with shipping.

Thanks, I figured that was the safer bet, and when as much work as it is gonna be to swap them in, I only want to do it once. McGeorge is cheaper than Camelback, but Olathe wasnt. I live down the street from Camelback , so even if they are more expensive, with will-call pickup Camelback usually comes out ahead for me.

installed white dash leds (but my fuel light won't turn off so if anyone sees this help lmao) and i moved my ECT and rear window switches to the left of the steering wheel per the 99+ cc mod

I did this on my '96 and when I finally realized the low fuel light wasn't coming on I flipped the LED and then it wouldn't turn off. I had to replace it with the original non-LED which I'd fortunately kept.

With the assistance of my awesome neighbor, we fixed a cranking issue my rig was experiencing. No click, no crank, nothing. Installed a new battery over the weekend, upgraded my positive terminal with a brass one, but the negative terminal was so corroded I guess it wasn’t making good enough contact. So with some cutting and slight modification, we were able to successfully get the new brass terminal on the negative post, and my rig is now back in service. One day of leave from work isn’t so bad, right?

Also, thought it was the starter relay, so I ordered one on Amazon for $58, OEM of course, and I don’t think that had anything to do with the issue. I am however planning to keep the new one plugged in just in case it did have something to do with it, and I’ll keep the old one as a spare

I got an alignment this morning after replacing OTREs yesterday. Had to cringe when I watched the guy drop my recently-replaced RS3000 key fob on the ground.

I'd gone by thread count with the assumption that I was replacing OEM with OEM and that both parts were the same. Passenger side was showing 7 and driver's side showing 8 so that's how I replaced them.

As far as the left side, the old part had 36 threads and the new had 32. It took 18 turns to remove and 14 to install while showing 8 threads. Guess I had blinders on and was only looking at the approximate position of my match mark when I took this photo.

She felt unsteady and the steering wheel was off-center but we got there without issue. I gave the threads a quick look after the alignment and they both appear to be showing 4 which makes sense considering there were 4 fewer threads on the new parts. I may have been way off but at least they were even. Need to figure out a better way to measure for next time.

Ought a 99 yesterday now trying to get the hatch to work. Seems when i pull the handle it doesn’t pull the latch

Before you jump too far into opening things up to troubleshoot it, use your key to unlock the tailgate and make sure it isn't just locked. If the door is locked, the handle will feel like there is no resistance on it. I occasionally have issues with my hatch not unlocking/ locking in the heat if I use the key fob, but the key works just fine.

We have these on my bike forums and didnt find one here with the search. So lets get this started. As the title states, what did you do to it today?

I don’t want to sound like I would ever doubt some video on YouTube, but I gotta say, I had doubts about the one about the clock fix, where the guy gets a soldering iron and rubs some of the contact points where the solder is supposedly cracked, and that’s the reason why your clock has stopped working.

Well, I’m a doubter no more (at least for this solution). This actually worked for me today.

So for those who share the same problem I had, give this a try. There are 4 chips or resistors or whatever (I’m no tech wizard) that are plain to see on the back of the board for the clock. You can’t mistake them. Remove the 2 screws holding the two halves together. Find the 4 thingamajigs. Simply get your soldering iron hot (around 330 Celsius) and heat up the solder so that it becomes viscous again, and then stop. Don’t burn the board. Do that to all 4 things, both ends of them, for a total of 8 times.

This technique restored my clock. I’m as shocked as anyone.

Could also potentially be damaged wires in the harness that runs through the top of the hatch not unlocking it. Fairly common problem.

Timmy has a pretty good video showing how to look into this search his channel for "Rear Hatch Wiring Repair (3rd Gen 4runner)"

After splicing in my blinker lights to my corner lights I noticed I was going through blinker fluid like crazy. Added a blinker fluid reservoir to hopefully keep me from having to top off all the time.

Ordered a couple of Lil' Skip's gas tank skids. One for my '99, one for my wife's '96. She smushed up her tank pretty well last year, replaced wit with a junkyard tank and skid, and lightly smashed the skid on this summer's trip. And I lightly bent my skid (and possibly the tank) as well this year.

It's time for some more protection there. Both trucks already have bumpers, sliders, belly skids.

Replaced my intermittent failing TPS today. So far so good. Throttle response feels way better too. Easiest fix every. Hopefully the code doesn't come back.

I need to swap mine. I got one for almost free from a junkyard. I haven't really noticed any driving issues, but it's been occasionally popping CEL's with a P0120 code for a few weeks.

Nice - almost pulled the trigger on a Lil Skip's a couple weeks ago but had other priorities to take care of. Do post some some pics if you can when you get them on!

Meant to post about a week ago, oops! But my neighbor and I replaced my failing OEM alternator with a Denso reman unit, and the belt with an OEM one since it was due and we were in there anyways. The OEM unit I had in was from another 3rd gen, got it from a local pick and pull yard and put it in 2017. Lasted 4 years so I guess I can't be too mad. I'm keeping it though in case I can rebuild it in the future if/when this Denso unit goes out. So far great results, and no more flashing battery light. Also got a new battery beforehand, an Interstate from the local Costco. And for the record, RockAuto is freaking awesome. I ordered the alternator at 12 ish on a Tuesday, paid for standard shipping and it arrived at 10 AM the following day. Incredible

Finishing up this...bought the plans from solid wood worx. I work for a construction company and we have some guys that were waiting for one of our projects to start so they didn't have a whole lot to do; I got it approved from the boss to have them cut materials and put it together. I painted it and did the carpeting. I just have to finish mounting the box.

Did an initial mount on some new lights. Still need to get my security hardware in, and get some rubber to put between the light bracket and winch cross bar as it is a very tight fit.

Also starting to collect another pile of parts for this thing :)
