How hard is the timing belt? I’m fairly inclined mechanically. I’ve done the upper and lower balls joints, inner and outer tie rods, replaced belts (on a different car) and generally do my own work. I’ve never tackled a timing belt and it is a bit intimidating. I’m really worried about ****ing it up.

How long should I budget for this?

If you've done belts on another car, then this one is easy. Gets a Little more complicated if you opt to replace crank and cam seals, idlers, tensioner, water pump, etc.. ("full" job), but it's not Challenging. I think most pros are in the 3~4 hour range, I did a Whole bunch more (valve gaskets, half moons, injectors, etc..) and was done in 2 6~7 hour days.

The best thing about the 5vzfe is that it's non-interference. Goof up the timing and it'll simply not run, no damage done. Then you get to learn how to re-time everything. Good learning project.

I hired someone from craigslist to replace valve cover gasket and thermostat, he didn't install the ring gasket to the thermostat, I hope it will work, but the valve cover job is horrible horrible, because there are 4 missing bolts and nuts, and i missing stud, he said it's ok, the plenum cover is still secure, it was 1 wk ago, and I am still looking to buy the missing bults/nuts, I just can't find them, no more mobile mechanic !!!

i have been looking for these bolts and nuts for two weeks now, on and off, ordered a few from toyota dealers, but they don't fit, i was unable to locate part number, can't find any diagram with part numbers. If you know the specs for these bolts and nuts shown in the photos, please help!!

new rear springs to address some 22-year-old butt-sag. measured 15/16" higher... not quite as much as i wanted, but i'll take it. thanks [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION] timmy and sean for the vid. started fairly late afternoon and still was done in time to make dinner. i thought it would have taken longer.

I have been looking for these ,bolts and nut

I don't know if you've got a pick n pull-type place with a truck with a 5vzfe engine (tacoma, 4Runner, tundra, etc) but that's the place I'd head to.

In lieu of my first choice I'm also partial to my local Ace Hardware because they stock more of the metric stuff I need.

I believe this is the throttle body nut number 90179-08183, but check it for your ownself.

Fabricated a bracket to extend the e-brake cable mount:

Trimmed and fitted the PCK brackets, now need to find someone to weld them in:

Lift gate window mod

Can’t believe I didn’t do this mod sooner. Only took about 20 minutes. Used a leftover switch from another vehicle I was working on last year. Soldered in the three wires at the window module and flushed the switch into the panel. Definitely going to make my solo camping trips more enjoyable!

Alright, you gave a man a fish... now teach me to fish. I dug around for half and hour, pouring over what online parts fiches I could find and couldn't dig up those part numbers. What resource did you use so that I can use it in the future to better find things myself? I suppose to work for a dealer and have access to better parts info though....

You can search by these part numbers, and reverse engineered to the diagrams and the corresponding website.
