What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

May or may not have picked up some SuperTech full synthetic high mileage 5W-30 this morning in preparation for my next oil change.

Monitoring a relatively new, minor (potential) oil leak. I have about 3K miles to go until my next change, so we’ll see what happens in between now and then. Also doing 4K OCI’s now, just because it makes me feel good. Nervous about using the HM stuff, never have before. So we’ll see!

I use the awning more at home than I do on trips....

enjoying not getting poured on while I replace the rubber bit on my Sonoran Steel rear bump stops and also replacing the driver's side rear spring air bag.

The right side bump stop will have to wait for it to stop raining, but I'll take what I can get until then.

self explanatory i suppose. no drama. used a clear plastic hose, but will switch to an air hose later on down the road.

Napa awning horizontal pole strengthening kit. The nylon spacers and longer bolts allows the pivot to be mechanically connected to both parts of the main aluminum channel. This stiffens the poles when deployed and makes it harder for the pivot to tear out of the channel in case it gets yanked on.

Bolted on my front bumper I've been building for the past couple weeks.

I liked how slim the addicted offroad plate bumper looks so I used that as sort of a general reference. It turned out a little chunkier than I expected but I think all in all it looks decent.

When I was finish welding it warped a little and now the passenger side body clearance is a bit tighter than the driver side, but it's not too noticeable.

I think it looks worse with the crappy paint job, but hopefully it will look more even once it's dried all the way. When I cut into it to install lights I might repaint with a bit more care, or look at buying some higher quality paint

Took a drive to San Diego to pick up a set of Aisin manual ABS hubs, spindles and axles off a forum member today. He's SASing his right so I snagged his LBJs to keep as a spare set.

Stopped in Carson on the way and picked up a spare pair of 99 headlights. I like having spares of things.

Started cleaning up the spindles and couldn't find my brass drift to knock out the conical washers so I ordered one off Amazon. Hit the studs and washers with PB Blaster and will let them cook for a day or two until the drift arrives.

Final wired in my fog lights.

Will update my build thread soon. Giggity.

Had to go by HF because nobody had the Dremel discs that I needed for the right side bump stop nut so I picked one when I got discs. Used it this morning, seems sturdy enough for the job. I mean, it doesn't have any cows on it but I guess it'll do okay.

With the nice lighting this evening, and with the help of my handy dandy work issued flashlight, I was able to crawl beneath my rig and do some much needed investigating. Cleaned up my oil pan a bunch, looked alllllll around it as much as I possibly could and didn’t see anything that looked out of the ordinary, with the exception of some Toyota FIPG from where I had my oil pan replaced in 2015. It seemed to be protruding from the driver side, like directly beneath my oil filter, and when I pressed on it, it felt super spongy and seeped a wee bit of oil. But I can’t possibly imagine that’s the source of my seep. I also went ahead and cleaned up that area the best I could (after the pics were taken). I also checked out the external oil cooler, and while it is definitely covered in gunk, I observed no noticeable or visible leaks coming from it.

So my plan is this. Continue monitoring this thing, and if it continues to seep, I may try tightening the Fumoto valve. Now when I installed the Fumoto valve I actually swapped the supplied fiber gasket for an OEM Toyota gasket, thinking I had this master plan all worked out. I’m wondering if that’s where I went wrong. If tightening the valve doesn’t resolve the seep, I may either ditch the Fumoto altogether, which I don’t particularly want to do, or I may just swap the gasket for the supplied fiber one at my next oil change.

Any input/conversation in relation to this is tremendously appreciated!

I’m just nervous about the whole thing and don’t really know which direction I want to take it. I like the idea of having the Fumoto valve, but not at the cost of having potential oil leaks. Nobody needs that. So I could scrap the Fumoto idea altogether and just reinstall my OEM drain plug and call it a day. Decisions, decisions… but thank you for letting me know which gasket you used and how your results have been so far!

got 2 gear boxes drained. the front diff is being difficult. plus, it doesn't look like any of the ones in the videos showing how to do it. the fill is not nearly directly above the drain, it's sorta around the corner, and accessed from the front of the truck. could just be the old normal.

NONE of the plugs had compression rings. the 4 i have seem to be the flat ones without crush rings. there was no larger copper ring.

does anyone have a link to a picture showing the gaskets with their locations?

p.s. couple of days ago i replace the fuel filter and the truck thanked me by sounding more like an engine than a drama queen throwing a hissey-fit
