What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

hey guys, new to the forum and new to owning a 3rd gen sr5 4runner. Not sure how to post on here quite yet.

I am needing to replace my clutch and not sure how to go about finding parts, I've searched everywhere for 4x4 compatible clutch kits and for some reason can't find one. Not going to do any crazy rock climbing or anything yet, so just wanting a standard replacement. Any recommendations?

It was a good day.

Finished my new grille (three coats primer, three coats paint, three coats clear coat), it’s installed.

Installed a new 3D printed cabin air filter (Tommy is the man). The charcoal filter I installed is too restrictive on the air flow, so I’ll have to put something else in place.

Replaced my Denso pre-cat sensor (the one I had was either bad or a fake and was killing my gas mileage).

Installed a new glass mount antenna (I had removed my retractable one and covered the hole with flexi-seal, but found I still want one).

Was going to do the deck plate mod, but I wasn’t paying attention and ordered a 6” deck plate. [emoji2357]

Spent about 4-5 hours doing "paintless dent removal" on 6 dents.

2 dents are totally gone.
2 dents look better but are still there and i pretty much gave up on for now, I'll try again later.
2 did nothing from what I can tell

Also used plastic/rubber mallet to straight part of my tail gate, but there is paint missing there.

Finally painted my tailgate license plate holder area and the plastic part of the bumper with trim and bumper paint. Looks way better now, old had lots of sun spots.

Let us know what filter media you end up liking. I took some airflow measurements and found that pre-filter media to be pretty good compared with other options. Filtration and pressure drop is always a tradeoff unfortunately...

How did you diagnose the bad sensor, was it via OBD? I have recent OEM O2 sensors, but my mileage is worsening by the day and I can't figure why, wondering if this may be the culprit.

I had replaced my sensors in early September, with Densos I purchased on Amazon. I think the old ones were Bosch…whatever the brand, they were OLD. After installing, thinks just didn’t seem right. I was used to the instant mpg readings on my Ultra Gauge, and they just looked lower, right out of the gate. I decided to let it be and see how things went, but my mileage just continues to suck. Then, I started seeing a 1030 code.

I decided to just bite the bullet and purchase a Denso from O’Reillys. It would cost way too much, but at least I’d know it was genuine. I popped it in and the 1030 is gone and mpg is back up to where it was before.

I’m surprised. I have been using the pre filter charcoal stuff (3M) and it’s been good. Yes, the airflow is restricted, but the air does smell…better, if that makes sense. Might be in my head. [emoji57]

My mind may change when summer returns, and I’m craving a LOT of cold air.

This last week I finally got started on my 3rd gen. I always wanted a 3rd gen and finally found one at the auction at work that was super clean and in good shape besides the horrid rod knock… couple months later I bought another off of Facebook that has a good motor and factory e locker so I’m in the process of the swap! Can’t wait to finally have this thing on the road!

My mileage has slowly gone from 16 to 12, and I can't find anything wrong. Looking at the OBD readout, the O2 sensor seems to be behaving well. But I wonder if the OBD just looks at the electrical side of the sensor, I don't think it can determine if the "mixture sniffing" portion of the sensor is working correctly.

I don't have any codes, but I may spring for a new sensor from Toyota just in case.

Yeah odb won't know that. All it knows is the voltage output.

Finally got around to getting an alignment done after all of the suspension work from last fall. I've been living with a cock-eyed steering wheel and a serious pull to the left for way too long. Toe and steer ahead angles were way off

Went to a local Firestone store that has a good reputation and I am very pleased with the result. I can actually take my hands off the wheel to scratch my nose without risking getting pulled over into oncoming traffic.

It also seems to have seriously reduced the amount of rubbing from the 285/75/16 tires that I've been getting on hard turns both left and right. It also seems to have eliminated the recent cricket chirping noise that I had attributed to a wornout U-joint.

Bought a confirmed working elocker (third and axle housing) today for a pretty good deal off a t4r that was in a front end wreck. Guy is going to pull the front at some point too and we will see if it was damaged at all and I might buy that if the price is right otherwise I'm going to grab one from a pick and pull. I'm leaning towards getting that one though as I struggle to think of a way to actually check the gear ratio on a front axle without finding some way to engage the ADD and having CVs attached. Was pretty cool getting to successfully test it too without the ECU. Just a jumper, two leads and a 12v drill battery. Going to pair it with an aftermarket harness.

I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to get the alignment done. Look at my poor passenger side front tire. This is after just 4,200 miles. :cry2:

The driver's side front shows some uneven wear, but nothing like this.

Did an oil change over lunch break today. I'm also getting the Trail Gear tube bumper ready for install. Primer coat done. Semi-gloss black top coat going on tonight.

I ordered oem headlight housings from McGeorge prepared to remove the glass from my original headlights by heating them up and resealing them to the new housings, but instead I received new glass too! I had no idea they still make them or unless they stopped and this is just limited stock.

My overall aesthetic is a safari look with oem headlights as I plan to install an ARB bumper with 2 spotties so I’m not about the projectors conversion life. Opening them up and cleaning them was not worth my time and some of the chrome faded so 340$ was worth it to me.

Took my Surf off-road for the first time today, and found some mud to play in!
