That's how it is with me. My MPGs are fine until I drive 2 miles to work, hitting 3 traffic lights in the process and never going above 30 mph

I don't get it, I'm running stock tires with only a daystar lift and I'm getting 14.79 mpg according to the computer on the dash. since the fall my gas mileage has been creeping ever so slowly worse and worse all winter, not sure if its winter gas or something wrong with the 4Runner.

ordering an airaid drop in this week, maybe that will help a bit.

i dont understand either. Mine showed 15.6 on the DIC, IRL its 13.6 my calculation. I dont drive insane, top speed is 40mph. New plugs, air filter, no seized brakes, no unnecessary weight in vehicle (besides gf). I dont understand.

maybe you should check your throttle body. after I cleaned mine out I went from average 16 mpg to 20 mpg in no time. also new a/f plugs ect... The highest I ever saw it go up to was when I got to the beach last summer the gauge said 26.5 i didn't even know it could go that high

i did it over the weekend but it wasnt bad at all, very minimal.

Yeah, i get 17.5 to 18.5 around town, with a V8. If i completely nurse it i can get 19.5 - 20 in town.....:car:

How do you do this? I'm completely stock and even if I drive like a slow old person who pisses off teenagers the best I can get is 17, but I average 16.

I hardly go over 70 anymore. So mehhhh to whoever said I'm a moron.

I keep my RPMs under 1,500 during acceleration to get my good mileage. It pisses everyone off behind me but I don't care

Thank you! I kinda just jumped for the KM2's on a whim and I'm actually liking them a lot!

Haven't had the Duratracs off for more than 6 hours lol.

My average mileage went from 15.6 with the 285/70/17 to 17.2 with the 255/80/17. It's something! It'll add up too over time

I think drag caused by contact area has to do with bad mileage as well, though I do not disagree with your unsprung weight theory. I have heard each pound of tire above spec is like adding 40 pounds that you are hauling. Having big heavy meats definitely doesn't help mileage but I'm hoping the reduced drag from the narrower tread will treat me nicely :)

You're right. From what i've seen, the contact patch seems to be just as important as the weight. Also, I believe the ratio is around 1 to 8 (unsprung vs sprung), but who knows if that's actually right. Either way, pretty crazy when you think about how much weight we add over the factory setup.

Looks great though. I'm not a tall skinny guy myself but I can appreciate the look and MPG bump.

I keep mine under 2k for accelerating and I get the same thing.

Yeah lady, tailgating my lifted 4Runner with your Honda Civic is really intimidating...

How do I check for a seized brake

And that is with the hills around town too.

That no joke! I average about 15.5 according to lie-o-meter but when I was staying in bham all the time with my gf, it dropped to around 14.something.

I quit calculating the real numbers a long time ago when I realized that I didn't wanna see em.

Yep, still have them on for now.

LMAO!

Now Momo.. I know you're a mod on here, and have given tons of good info to a lot of people, including myself... And I respect the heck outa you, but.. But... Lol

First, I coulda sworn you had 265-70 BFG Rugged Terrains, but I must be wrong on the size (I'll admit I must be wrong there). But - you do have a pretty big lift - right? I think I need to hit the BS button on those mpgs..! Lol. And you have an 03 before vvt, which I would think would lower the gas mileage.

Are these numbers off of the computer? Or calculated? Something seems awry there is all I'm saying.

I could be wrong here and sorry that I'm "pushing back" but before I did any mods, even in a highway trip where I kept it at 60, I don't think I got those numbers.

Cudos to you though if that is what you are getting!!

He has 265/65R18s which are the same as 265/70R17. But I also agree that he's fudging the numbers.

edit - can't wait to see his bubble burst when he puts on the 285 'true' ATs!

I say we get the pitch forks and torches out and find out what sort of sorcery momo is using!

She likes nose chips! Drift over onto the shoulder a bit and see how quickly she backs off after kicking up all that garbage.

FWIW I'll probably take off my ski racks this weekend and gain 1-2 MPG. I just signed up for Fuelly to track mileage. Hopefully I'll like it better than the last app I used - cargly. Cargly sucked.
