the front diff has an extended breather under the hood to the right of the engine looking from the front, left hand side sitting in the driver seat. the rear breather needs to be extended, and the transfercase/ tranny also need extending for deep water crossings... yes i've learned the hard way as well lol.




not quite 300 miles from home, but none the less i was in the middle of a trail at 2am in the morning and had to get back to camp in front wheel drive. lol and yes I was grinding the piss out of the ring gear the whole way haha

Ok I have a rear breather mounted at my taillight and I need to flush the transfer case too I bet! I'll do that soon. Still seriously considering a manual trans and ECU from a Tacoma.

After buying my 2004 from a fellow member, I needed to do the 100,000 mile maintenance and decided to upgrade a few other things....including but not limited to :

1. JL AMP & Sub install utilizing JBL enclosure - I added this to a NON JBL 4runner FYI - used a prior members notes and pics and it seems to work fine.
2. Kenwood DNX 5120 with IPOD cable from a fellow member
3. PAC SWC module, to regain use of my SW control buttons - eBay
3. Bluetooth SW buttons from Tacomaworld Member
4. BOYO rear license plate camera - eBay
5. Limo tint with JRD Decals
6. Water pump, pulleys, timing belt etc. changed -eBay OEM Kit used, dealer installed parts.
7. Replaced the spark plugs with OEM Denso's - toyotapartscheap.com
8. Replaced front & rear brakes with OEM pads
9. Projector headlights and blacked out tail lights - eBay
10. Checked diff's & transfer fluid - Like new
12. Replaced Air Filters - OEM filters - toyotapartscheap.com\

Next is Katzins with heaters, Bluetooth module to actually program my new buttons, and Icon suspension & eventually a hidden front winch...stay tuned.

Trans was flushed and cleaned, then refilled. I got home just now with little to no issue and 20mpg averaged the whole way.

Pulleys sound whiney like a supercharger, so I have to replace them.

I just love manual transmissions and I would LOVE to put a taco transmission and ECU in

I had to replace one of my pulleys for the same issue. Easy to do and I got the part quick from rock auto.

Installed a kenwood double din w/urban runner trim. Looks factory.

Installed remote start too.

It should just be your top idler pulley unless you flooded your timing case then it's probably a good idea to go inside the case and clean out any debris. your diffs are a main thing to get extended breathers on, your transfer case is sealed pretty well as well as the tranny but if the breathers were to clog for what ever reason that would cause issues. best to extend them all if posible but i haven't a leg to stand on I've only got my front and rear extended I'm certain my tranny and transfer case need flushing and filling as well as extended breathers (bad thing is i have the breathers to extend the t-case and tranny but i just haven't gotten around to doing so :rockthrow: lol)

I want a manual so bad! I was thinking about the FJ as a donor for the longest time, but then it hit me. Tacomas have the electronic diff control like us and they have the same traction controls as us.

Don't know if it's possible to reflash the ECU I have now, but I'm curious

Get a key fob that has lock, unlock, and start on it. That's what I did. I was in the same boat and I wanted to get a factory "unlock three times to start" starter, but I got used to the new remote and it's nice to have a warm truck

You do not want that junk transmission. Get a T56.

Forgot the name of the system but I had it installed by my local audio guy. The remote says "cool start", I'd google that

Will that bolt up to the 1GR-FE? How do I interface that with my vehicle?

That is why I want a Tacoma transmission. I know it'll bolt up and it might work with the 4Runner
