Changed out the older morimoto ballast to the latest one, also the old cheap harness is out with there heavy duty one. These new ballast starts up hella faster, getting close to oem speed.
this is why you should always avoid ddm and spend good money at trs.

working on complete dis-assembly of front and rear axles to make room for Air lockers and 4:56 gears... an well the other day i should have posted the last pic showing what i did then which was destroy the rear ring an pinion gears :surfer:

Day 1 of ownership...air in the spare to shut the tpms light off lol. And for some reason the previous owner installed a bunch of things backwards, the cover for the hatch was in backwards, the cup holder was backwards, the rubber mats were all upside down..
Day 2 of ownership...relocated the 12v in the center console to inside the armrest.

Installed my new cheap (but surprisingly awesome looking) aluminum mesh grille inserts from ebay. Only $54 for all 3 pieces, it will hold me over just fine so I can take my time on the satoshi grille I plan to build over the next few months.

How's the quality? It's really inexpensive, which in my mind, means cheap.

It's aluminum mesh so it is what it is. It hooks on using little pieces of wire that you can only see when you look close. I had to trim the one piece a little bit to get it to fit in good but overall it looks hella nice for $54....and you get a $3 rebate if you send them a pic of it installed which I just did.
I went out an bought a dremel (needed an excuse to anyway) and ground off the front lic plate mounts to get it to fit how I wanted it to. I've been meaning to do that for awhile.
I'm def happy with it for now. Def doing the Satoshi over the winter tho.
@Momo I will be leaving the bottom one in and painting it black when I do my satoshi FYI

I love the Satoshi. Probably my favorite mod. Sounds like a good project for the garage when it's nasty out. That's probably when I'll do my HID retrofit.

Just had a chat with the cops.... Some dude from my school called them cause he thought I was stealing the radio out of my truck....

the carrier housing has rust build up where it seats to the axle housing. but the orange color seen on the pinion is remains of the marker paint used to insure proper gear engagement.
i will say it's likely water that got into my axle over various off-road trips and one nasty mud bog competition that caused it to bite the dust. I'll be running lucas 85/140 non synthetic gear oil in my new carriers it doesn't break down under heat like synthetics that toyota recommend do. but then again I don't drive in the toyota recommended way lol..
