What did you do with your 4runner today?

Pulled off my stock skids wire brushed the rust and layers of dirt off, washed them, and painted them with some Rustoleum high heat. Looks a lot better under there now.

While I had the skid plates off, I washed under there too, this was before I washed it. Didn't take an after pic because it started getting cold, but most of the mud is gone now.

Installed some ugly Thule crossbars that stick out about 6 inches on each side of the truck. Of course my parents won't let me take them off. Problems of being a teenager

Why won't they let you take them off? Why not just cut off the extra length to make them look better?

I washed and detailed mine last weekend before a weekend vacation and stored it all weekend. . Sunday/monday morning got more snow. I'm ready for the snow to quit and stop washing my car at least every other day! :dammit:

Put some metal flashing behind the DO on my bumper to see what it looked like.
It turned out pretty good in my opinion.

Perhaps try expanded mesh painted to allow air flow yet give some fill in the empty spots?

agreed, you'll need air flow that's the purpose of the openings if you close them off you could risk over heating issues.

We recently bought special fishing kayaks and they are so wide for stability that they need the extra width to be completely secure. We tried them on the OEM racks and they were to skinny.

On top of the airflow, those side cut outs (not the D.O.) serve as hi-lift jacking points. Some people like to fill them up with mesh or lights or whatnot and I guess that's fine if you never intend on using them, but there is a purpose to the design.
