What did you do with your 4runner today?

What's the deal with LCA skids? Are they just for looks? I really don't understand them, how would bolting a piece of aluminum/steel directly to the giant 40 lb (guesstimate) LCA do you any good? I understand the icon skid that has a dual shock mount. Are y'all worried about scratches on the LCA? Serious question, not trying to start anything?

It has that front lip that protects your CV and tie rods in case there is a branch trying to break your stuff. It adds an extra layer of protection. It looks cool. It adds color to the rusty under carriage. Separates the brodozers from the trail rigs (actuality of last statement has no statistical data backing it up)

With the 4th gens low ground clearance, I'll protect anything I can. The lca's could be the first things that hit the rocks, ill keep them nice and dent/chip/scratch free. Plus I'm supporting an awesome fabricator/person.

True that! We have a ton of money in amor, but I don't worry when I'm beating the heck out of the bottom on rocks.

I love hearing the sound of my skid plates landing on rocks! Once I get a gas tank, diff and rear shock/link skids ill be worry free. I'm jealous of your rear shock/link skids! Wish I could find someone to fab them up for me.

Stupid question I am sure, but is weight not an issue with armor? I only ask because I use to be a hard core RC guy, I would rather break something and have spare parts then add weight hoping I could possibly prevent something from breaking.

I would rather protect important components instead of fixing things on the trail.

Not when protecting something like the radiator, transmission, transfer case, etc..and you'll be in the middle of no where without access spare parts. In my opinion there's some things you can get away with like shock skids because you can drive without rear shocks but the weight won't be enough to realize. Adding a couple hundred lbs of armor will end up being cheaper than repairing/replacing all those parts or any potential fuel savings. That is if you're wheeling your truck hard.

Please don't go out of your way at all, but if you just happen to be under the truck, that would be much appreciated!

Inside width/depth, plus overall height,etc, would be great!

Ask and you shall receive. I couldn't find my digital caliper though, so this is the best I could do, so take this for what you will.

I'm jealous of your rear shock/link skids! Wish I could find someone to fab them up for me.

Why don't you just get the all-pro or rocktek rear link skids? I suggested them to nghiS4 awhile ago.

Today, I bought mine! 2003 Limited V6, pretty much bone stock, though this forum has given me a few ideas (once I've got any negelcted maintance covered). Infuenced my decision, too - a healhy, helpful (and happy) community is a pretty awesome thing to see when you're looking at a used vehicle.
