What did you do with your 4runner today?

So I decided to call into work today and finish installing my roof rack and light bar. I have a ton of sick time and vacation so I figured why not. I had been working every night after work trying to make the brackets and I ended up buying an angle grinder to speed up the job. It still took me all day today but it turned out great. All in: tools, roof rack, material, and light bar I probably spent $500.

05' grille. Cut, hacked, broke, put back together. Emblem is vinyl lettering on plastic sheeting trimmed to shape. In process of putting my light bar in the lower grille.

Got tired of the front end clunk.. Took it to the dealer and they heard the clunk, but couldn't find it. They're thinking it's the cross member making the noise since everything else in the front end is right. Also got told "it's got rust....". Well, it is from the northeast

So I drove it with just the rack and wind deflector and there little to no wind noise. When I installed the light bar there was a little more but it's more of a rumble and when I close the sunroof shade it isn't that noticeable.

The smaller lights on the side are ditch lights. They offer are really wide light around the front tires. So as the name states I can see ditches and more things from the side.

Congrats on the new baby Ed! I don't think we're quite ready to have another little one running around yet, but we're starting to gear up for it.

But don't feel bad. With building the house taking up all my time this year, I've neglected caring for my 4Runner and commissioned her as a construction vehicle. Now with the house "finished", I'm finally getting around to taking care of the truck. And it started with a trip through an automated car wash, but then I followed it up with a hand polishing. I don't have the time to spend all day caring for the truck, especially since I own 3 vehicles, so I have to pick my poison. If I want to hand wash, then that's about all I can do. If I want to wax or polish or do other detail work, I use the automated as a base to work from. Not ideal, but it does the job.

It's not like when we were young and single and could wash the car every Friday after work so that it'd be shiny for the weekend. Grown up problems...

Thanks! What you said is what I intend on doing. Automatic car wash, then head home for a wipe down, hand wax and basicalky wait for my wife to b@#ch at me to help her (even though my in laws are here from overseas to help). LOL. Yep, having kids completely robs ya of free time, but its all good. Thats ok, because after bedtime, "I'm BATMAN!"

LOL, I just took mine through one the other day too, trying to get rid of the spots that it got at my old parking lot. They were still there after the wash, so I had to remove them by hand anyway :wtf:

Suspension day

Finally got a floor jack, and jack stands to replace my leaking rear shocks;

-Bilstein 5100's all around now
-Moog front and rear sway bar bushings and connection linkages

Two jack stands and a floor jack for the rear shocks - 1hr
19mm spanner
17mm spanner
Vise grips and allen set for preventing the top part of the shock from spinning when removing the 17mm nut PITA!!!

Bushings and linages did not require the truck to be jacked up (highway road imperfection slop gone) - 1hr

Tools
-17mm spanner
-12 and 14?mm sockets

Also, dash was replaced by Toyota last week.

Successfully changed differentials and t case on my 06 v8 without jacking it up at all. Oils were very gross as were the plugs at 60k miles. Very glad to get it done after seized plugs halted me last time.
So I have a question for those who may share some of my ocd tendencies. I changed my oil at 57500 as it was due and that's when I had a set of almost new bfg kos thrown on as well. Because I like things easy and I seem to have inherited my father's obsessive tendencies, I want to get back to the 5000s for maintenance. I know I'm splitting hairs but should I change the oil and rotate the tires at 3500 miles (around 61xxx) and then again at 65000? Or should I just wait out the 65000 since there is synthetic oil in there but still do the tires twice?
I would appreciate any feedback.

Could you share how you made the brackets? (including the materials that you used). Also, is there padding under the brackets?
