What did you do with your 4runner today?

Ran into some hiccups with the HID kits, but I did manage to complete the 06+ headlight mod. Can't wait to test them tonight. Put in silverstar ultras high/low

Is it me or do the updated headlights bulge out more? I never noticed that before!

Full Frontal

Finished armoring up the front with the A-arm skids... Had picked up a set of (barely) used BAMF ones a while back and got them installed.

Did my 5k oil change today, ran out of time to lube the prop shafts (will do next week). However, and more importantly, I got the 4lo working today:banana:

Been messing with it since I bought it in March. Today I removed the electrical connector from the actuator, cleaned and greased it (for waterproof-ness) and inspected for damaged wiring. All good.
Put it together and tried 4lo. Could hear the dash relays clicking, no love, tried to go back to 2wd, the lights would not go off. Did a zero point.

Tried switching modes again and success:boink: drove around a little and then tried switching it again. Everything works. All modes, transfer case lock and dac.

So happy. Now to keep it all exercised.

Put in an 800CCA Napa battery replacing the 4 year old Toyota battery that was corroding at the positive terminal.

New to me 4th Gen

I had a 1997 4Runner and last winter I hit some black ice and totaled it. I bought a Silver 2004 SR5 V8 4Runner. I cannot wait to get started on the transformation.

Tore my front end apart to install the ECGS bushing, which replaces the faulty Toyota needle bearing. Finally the vibration is gone!!!!!

you can see the Toyota needle bearing in there, which was replaced with the bushing. The bushing creates a tighter fit, and is designed to last the life of the vehicle.
Shout out to fdbyrne from the forum for letting me borrow the bearing removal tool, and a little advice for a smooth install.

White Knuckle Odd-Road Sliders

Drove up to White Knuckle Of Road yesterday and picked up my sliders. Then drove down to my friend Dave's house where we installed them. I think they look awesome, can't wait to "test" them next weekend in Big Bear. (Sorry for the crappy cell phone pictures.)

Looks good. Weld on? Bolt on? I've been looking at getting some sliders. So many choices

Bolt on, but can be welded if you choose. I did a ton of research and chose these and, so far, could not be happier with my choice.

Installed some nice clean switches and a power indicator last night. The large amber one towards the armrest were already there when I bought the truck and are for the heated seats

XREAS out front and rear, Boss fronts and SPC UCA's in. XREAS disconnected via the 22mm nuts on the lines by the mount brackets, RR was a problem getting to the nut, ended up cutting the hose to the shock, that was the only fluid that leaked out.

XREAS was actually helpful when removing the notoriously difficult rear shock top nuts. I wedged a crescent wrench handle between the banjo bolts and the frame to prevent the shock body from turning, used a 6-point 17mm box end wrench with a section of steel pipe slid onto it for leverage.

Installing the Boss rear shocks, Superflex coils and airbags are the easiest part of the job, but I have to do quite a bit of sand/silt cleanup before installing. This '08 must have lived it's life on dirt roads because every crevice is packed with Western Colorado dirt. Every spot that can hold sand does hold sand.

Of course, antiseize applied on the install, can't forget that.

Not exactly 4runner related, but I did go get the new oil pressure switch for the wifey's accord in the 4runner.

Backstory: I've been chasing an oil leak in the wife's accord for a while now. Narrowed it down to either the oil pressure switch, the rear main seal, or the oil pan.

I finally cleaned all the crap off of the engine and caught the leak coming from the oil pressure switch. It put out a tiny drop every 10 minutes! Sneaky SOB.

So today after putting that little !$&#* in, I really cleaned off the engine to look for other leaks.

Then the little VTEC engine taught me a life lesson!

1. Always, and I do mean always wear safety glasses! (Luckily I did).

2. Never, and I mean NEVER! open the cover to the flywheel on a Honda J30 series engine with it running.

It will fly!!

I feel lucky to have all of my face still attached. Whew!

Something to check on- I've got the RCI's and that bolt nearest the wheel---> make sure it doesn't stick up too far. It may look good sitting on the ground, but when it droops the damn bolt tore up both CV boots. There isn't much room there when it's all the way flexed out. Just something to look at before you get out and find both boots shredded.

Thanks for the heads up!
Yeah, I noticed the clearance on the one bolt at the top of the A had very little room ... then noticed three different bolt lengths and figured the shortest went there so I'm hoping I'm good. But I'll definitely double check before wheeling next weekend. Thanks!!
