What did you do with your 4runner today?

Drilled out the rusted-in missing-it's-head right bolt/screw on the rear license plate and managed not to mangle the threads of the hole. Replaced with stainless screws.

The previous owner, in their genius, didn't bother and instead drilled a new hole in the liftgate metal on the bottom right of their license plate. So I'll have to get that fixed at some point.

Went up to Mt. Laguna for a little solo trip and created the video below.
It's pretty basic wheeling, but I don't do anything much tougher without another truck/co-pilot.
I'm just getting into drone flying and video editing, so any tips or feedback are greatly appreciated.

Great video. My only suggestion is to get a dashcam so you can mix the footage. I need to do the opposite as I have the dashcam but no drone. Tougher call to buy one here though as most trails in my part of the country are through forests.

a/c job coming!

I don't post much, but I look on here every day. Even got a build thread around here somewhere I've been meaning to update. There hasn't been to much to update. Mainly just maintenance stuff, but a few things might interest others so ill be update my build thread soon.

This was last weekend:
I've been struggling to find a big a/c leak I have. I was pretty sure it was the evaporator core but wanted to make 100% sure before I did all that dash work myself.

After looking everywhere under the hood, no leak. I got a Freon sniffer and couldn't get a hit thru the vents so I gave up and asked my wife's friend's husband to come by and help. He is a Toyota master mechanic. We put dye in the system and ran it for a while. At the same time, we placed a bowl under the truck to catch the water drip from the a/c. After 15 minutes, we can clearly see lots of dye in the bowl.

So now that I know for sure its the evap, guess what I'm doing in my garage soon!

Evap, compressor(showing signs of weakness), condenser, dryer, and expansion valve. Ordered from rock auto. Gonna save a ton on labor since I'm doing it all myself.

P.S. This was the first time I met this guy, and he said he was very impressed with my garage, tools, and knowledge. Coming from a master mechanic, it was a nice compliment on something I've worked hard my whole life for.

Changed out rear coil springs on a 04 V8 limited, used spring compressor and both of them might have taken 30min. Also in the process of installing a new complete audio system, head unit speakers speaker wires, and amp.

I fabbed up a license plate bracket, and am working on the tool carrier, as well as a Jerry can holder.

Any write up on your license plate holder fab? I have to do the same for mine since Wilco doesn't sell the holder for the classic gate anymore.

How's the projector compare to the factory? I thought about getting a set of these since mine have microcracks all over except maybe either retrofitting the stock ones or doing a morimoto HID retrofit.

Are these brackets to use 5.7 Tundra brakes??

It started yesterday... but will be on-going till next week.

Started as a lift project, as I went all out and got King 2.5" w/ Adj in the front. Fox 2.0 w/ Icon 3" Overland Dual Rate Spring in the rear, JBA upper control arms, Panhard raise bracket (weld), 17x8.5 -6 wheels & Falken AT3W tires.

70% through the lift, I found my driver side UCA bolt is seized to the stock UCA. Broke an 1/2" brushless impact and smashed a finger trying to break it free :tape:. Going to cut it off and replace with a new bolt.

I knew 1 CV was leaking but opened up to find out BOTH my CVs have broken boots, tie-rod ends are done, Cam bolts are a starting to go, 1 caliper is seizing and my 2 rear bump stops are rotting (1 fell off). So I took the liberty to replace them all while I'm in there...and upgrade my brakes to 5th gen w/ new calipers, rotors, and pads. While I'm at it I'll also replace my brake fluid (may as well from the caliper change), diff fluids, oil change (its due), new spark plugs, new coolant, and even the windshield wipers...

Yes. A lift project turned into a full-on overhaul of my entire truck. :cry2:

Fixed my lack of having 4lo and took of the running boards for the visual lift. Fixing the 4lo required an adjustment to the PNRDL switch (so that it actually knew it was in neutral) and opening up the transfer case actuator and freeing everything in there up. That in itself was a 6 hour ordeal...but it was a free fix so it was worth it. Pic because :worthless

Did the rear sway bar link upgrade, changing over to the 2nd Gen 4Runner 1" longer links. I went with the Proforged ones. Also changed the bushings on the links to Energy Suspension, and changed out the rear sway bar bushings while I was at it. Waiting on the correct front sway bar bushings to arrive. The 29mm front bushings spec'd by Energy Suspension are worthless, and incorrect for my rig. Got 30mm front sway bar bushing on the way. Also installed the Icon front sway bar relocation brackets.

sold my SSO sliders from my 5th gen to a guy that wants to modify them to weld onto his lifted 4th gen. not sure if he's here on the forum or not, forgot to ask.

got my new rear rotors today, already have the calipers and waiting on pads. I've decided that with incomplete maintenance records, 196k miles and shuddering/surging brakes I'll just do all the calipers and rotors and pads. doing the 5th gen upgrade up front.

4x brand new Trail rims with center caps for $420.

Wish I couldve gotten a 5th to have a matching spare like I do now, but maybe that day will come.

I was going to burn a couple CDs to add to the truck music, but would have had to omit some music or have one disc with very little. Decided to upgrade the stereo. This is Alpine's CDE-W265BT. Its their only DD that is not a screen. I didn't want an SD as the filler tray below is too slippery to hold anything. Having music on a thumb drive will be great! Its like moving from a tape deck to an MP3 CD player. I'm going to print out the manual since Alpine doesn't give you one in the box. Probably better to see, anyways. Hands free bluetooth calls will be cool.
So far, driving home with an MP3 disc playing, it seems like I'm hearing more details. I still have to get a mini-USB drive to test out.

I can't remember the last time I really listened to radio. The sales guy mention HD radio on the SD higher end model, but I would be wasting $$ for something that I wouldn't use.

you're gonna love having music on a USB drive! I had one in my Honda for years. It's great not having to switch CD's.
