What did you do with your 4runner today?

Readjusted camber with SPCs to near 0 from 1-2 degrees negative and reset toe to 3/8-1/2" toe in, still too much, will readjust it again soon to 1/8" out to 1/8" in.

I should probably start a build thread...

So first off, don't do what I did!
I was trying to get the driver door speaker wiring from inside the cabin to inside the door.
There isn't an opening like there is in the rear doors.
So I figured I'd make one.
I told myself to go slow and easy with the drill and stop as soon as I felt I was through metal.
Which is what I did, really.
But the main wiring harness is really very directly behind the metal door jamb.

When I pulled the drill and had a look and saw all that copper wire...
I freaked out.
That is the main wiring harness going into the driver side door.
All the control wires for everything that the driver can control, right there.
Massacred, kind of.

But...I slogged through it and made it out OK.
I got to the actual harness and separated all the individual wires.
And inspected every one of them for damage, one by one.
I 'hit' four, none of them actually truly severed.
So I properly doctored them all up one by one, and taped it all up.
Everything working A-OK and moving on.
First shot is taken inside the driver door looking right at the door jamb.

So I got through that OK.
I can't fab steel, but I can fab nearly anything else I need fabbed.
And every single step through this stereo install process I have had to fab 'something', nearly every day, nearly every step of the way.
These are the tweeter mounts I made.
I hit them with spar urethane which makes wood about as impermeable to moisture as anything out there, then black paint.
Worked perfect.

All those *#%&damn speakers are in and wired finally!
All door panels back on and everything buttoned up.
Even my fabbed-up JBL subwoofer box came out A-OK.

So I'm finally taking a break from wiring speakers.
And it's right on to paint.
I'm painting various things (coming up) but started with the roof rack.
I wanted to see how this Plasti-Dip shot on something simple before I approach the car with it.
I'm shooting the cladding black and doing the emblems.
Shot like a piece of cake, easy-peasy.
This is just the basecoat black, there are more (and glossier) coats coming.

Then, while I'm shooting the roof rack, the UPS truck comes driving up my driveway.
The Black Carpet is here!
And I started thinking...I'm going to need to shoot all the floor trim pieces black to make it 'work'.
That's for tomorrow...

Did the suspension on my wife’s 2007 Limited. KYBs all around with Moog coils in the rear. Lifted the front 2 inches, should settle to about 1” lift. Rotated the tires too. Oh no! Running speaker wires to the front doors is actually not too bad if you know the trick. I know it’s already done, but for next time!

1) the wires all come in on that plastic piece with the yellow electrical tape that you drilled into. Cut the tape off, and the whole plastic piece will fold back and you get access to the door jamb boot.

2) if you need more room to work, you can unbolt this door jamb boot plastic piece.

3) use a really long zip tie as your fishing tool. I used a big 36” zip tie. This allows you to avoid poking holes in the boot.


Now granted, the front doors ARE indeed trickier than the rear doors, but they are still doable.

Yeah, I figured all ^ that out as I was fixing my 'intrusion'.
Which is how I did the passenger front door.
Passenger door was a piece of cake once I disassembled the driver door properly.
Live and learn...

Funny you mention the hole in the boot...
I tried everything, nothing worked, couldn't get anything to go through.
So I did poke holes in all the boots.
Properly remedied afterwards, of course.
You, sir, are more man than I if you got something to make it through those crazy angles.
But funny you brought that up all the same.

Not quite today, but got my Scion T10015 head unit installed Absolutely LOVE IT so far. Somehow much better audio quality than the Sony Xplod that was in there - despite having similar specs.

Did the old de-badging of the car today. Not a big fan of fake chrome nor just random badges and old dealership badges that are put on cars. All about the small details for me. Near future ill be getting the rear hatch chrome paint matched as well as the door handles. Don't need to show the process as its super simple. Followed the video on youtube that AMMO NYC put up. Spent maybe $30 total on the compound which I already had, the solvent for removing the glue and fishing wire, borrowed moms hair dryer. Super simple and took maybe an hour.

Well it wasn't actually today, it was Monday but I upgraded the front brakes on my SR5 to the larger sport ones. My old rotors were warped horribly and I was tired of all the shaking when stopping. I used Brembo rotors and Cardone coated calipers. For the pads I went with Akebono. I used the Mitivac one person method to bleed them and all is well. All the shaking is gone and it does feel like it has a little bit stronger braking. I had read that you have to modify the backing plate to allow for the bigger rotors but all I had to do was just bend them back slightly; no big deal. I went back and forth for a few weeks about whether to upgrade or just buy rotors and pads in the original size. Glad I did it cause one piston on the LF caliper wouldn't retract; seized. What's really odd is both pads on the LH side were worn straight and equal. But on the passenger side the inner pad was worn much more than any other pad. But all 4 pistons retracted easily on that side. Makes no sense.

*DISCLAIMER* - I actually didn't do these things myself but had it all done today. I bought my '07 just over a year ago and it had 149k miles on it. Other than regular oil changes (luckily!) I couldn't find any records of any other routine maintenance being done. 150k calls for a big tune-up...YIKES! Now that I am at 162k, it was time:

- Spark Plugs
- Fuel Injection service
- Front/Rear differential oil
- Transfer Case oil
- Coolant system drain/refill
- Power steering flush/fill
- Brake fluid bleed/refill

Now back to simple routine oil changes! Here's to another 150k miles!

Did this on Friday. Installed aftermarket spoiler. I've wanted a spoiler since I got the runner back in Feb. I had no idea you could get one so cheap. I used the method posted by Nahrah using 3M two sided tape and just the top two screws. Took about 1.5 - 2 hours working alone.

Yesterday, I made a cradle for the FJ t-case in preparation for the swap next weekend. Sits great on the floor jack and won't fall off. Also fits the stock t-case.

Today, I started building my storage drawers.
