What did you do with your 4runner today?

Replaced the front passenger side CV axle because when I was installing the Powerstop brakes last week, I noticed a leaking boot. $90 at Autozone got me a new CV axle, and this forum and YouTube university helped me do the job myself, saving $200 I would've paid to a shop. I'm mechanically inclined, but this was a first for me. Took about 2 hours (plus another hour spent making two more trips to Autozone). The axle nut, by the way, was 35mm. Not a standard size, not easy to find. I mention the size because that's one thing I couldn't reliably find on this forum. Some said 36mm, some said 35. I can confirm that a 1 3/8" socket will also work.

Thats awesome man! CV is a kinda big job, good work! If you're old axle was OEM, I would keep it, tear down to asses damage, and reboot if its still good. Toyota Tripod bearings cost an arm and a leg (like $500 vs $350 for just the axle), but theres a Febest Kit I've been wanting to try on mine.

Took my runner on about a 3 hour round trip today. Noticed that I've got some tremble coming from my new Generals at freeway speed. I had to take it back immediately when I got them installed and I thought they were ok, but now I need to either get the same tire store to try balancing them again, or take it somewhere else, (and have to pay again). But, I'm still holding out a little hope that my wife is gonna come through on a set of TRD Pros for Christmas. (Fingers crossed). If I knew for sure that she was gonna do that, I'd just wait and see how well they balance with them on it.

Random question, what kinda jack do you have there? And the rims look great. I just cleaned mine finally. If I don't replace them in the spring I will attempt to repaint them.

Removed the last of the rust from my frame which was in the spare tire area. Sprayed on a rust reformer and then painting over it tomorrow after it cures.

Also bypassed my TPMS light by taping the wires under my glove box. No more annoying light!

Bilstein shocks, TRQ UCA's, LCA's and Tie rods getting installed by my mechanic on Tuesday!

Didn't actually do anything today but I still have something good to post. I received my $100 Visa gift card rebate from General Tires. I only paid $437 total for a set of the ATX's in a 265/70/17 including all taxes etc. (I have a friend that works at the Continental plant and he hooked me up.) Now with the rebate I've only got $337 in a set that sells for almost $700 on tire rack. :banana:

Replaced leaking steel power steering return tube with hose, barb fittings and hose clamps rather than go for the $100+ OEM replacement. We'll see how it holds up. Rusted tube holder clamp on top of frame rail was a pita!

Re-attacked rusted tube holder clamp bolt; cold chisel, drill, more cold chisel, finally broke free and then head broke off but enough sticking up to get vice grips on and got it out. Replaced with new cap screw(well lubed) and new clamp.

Spent the day retrofitting! Grabbed an H1 kit from TheRetrofitSource along with Panamera V2 Black shrouds - absolutely love how it turned out!

And some links to everything in motion (below). I opted to not do switchbacks because a: Amber DRLs fit my current lights better and b: it was gonna be a lot more wiring that I didn't feel like doing.

And some links to everything in motion (below). I opted to not do switchbacks because a: Amber DRLs fit my current lights better and b: it was gonna be a lot more wiring that I didn't feel like doing.

Put the winter wheels on today, and did a "few" extra things...
New swaybar end links and new brakes & rotors all around. I've got a squeaky suspension though, probably gonna finally have to replace the xreas at 242k...

TB, water pump etc... was changed by the dealer at 96k. Should be good to go for a while.
I'll get some pics, but it is bone stock burgundy. Not perfect, but did not buy it to be perfect. I needed a project.

Sanded and clear coated the headlights. Needs to dry for 24hours then I'll buff them up. Looks pretty good as is though.

Installed the 06+ tail lights on my 04. Definitely takes a couple years off of the old girls appearance.

And got my Orangeboxx center console molle. I love this thing. I have my wireless phone charger attached to it and have a few ideas of how I plan to use it in the future. Highly recommend this piece. No drilling required. Super well built piece. It was in stock and shipped next day when I ordered which is super rare in the fabrication world these days.

That jack is a military surplus. I came across it. It's designed for armored HMMWVs but it serves my purposes pretty well. I take it with me as it can get to around 30" without an extension and there's a baseplate you can use on softer soils which comes in handy as well. The pump is remote as well with a 4ft hose so you can stay safe and lift your vehicle if it's kinda sketch where you're lifting it.
