What did you do with your 4runner today?

Haven't posted in a while, nor do I have a build thread, so I'll put a couple updates in here! Installed the Victory 4x4 front and rear bumpers around Christmas. Also did a facelift on the front end with the updated headlights and put a Morimoto HID kit in for the low beams (before and after below). I also installed the aFe cold air intake; I didn't want to get my hopes up but it definitely feels like I've gained a little bit of power back (feels like it did before the steel bumpers). Plus it sounds MEAN at wide open throttle

Havin' had a miniature dipstick inserted into the back of my neck yesterday (cervical epidural #7), hell, I didn't do a damn thing on the rig today. :laugh: Just gingerly pruned some vines in the home vineyard in the warm, mountain sun, enjoyin' the sights and sounds of early Spring.

And yet I still got a big rush over the ol' 4R this evenin'.
Why?

'Cause along with a few other recovery odds and ends, UPS delivered the first round of Dobinsons goodies from Exit Offroad. Boy howdy, this fine rugged gear will never look this good again! :bounce:

P.S. A few hours later (after a hefty portion of onion & olive impregnated bear burger and just a smidge o' Merlot to wash it down), I opened the several small recovery gear items ordered off of EBay...

Didn't know that GearAmerica (orange, 12K lb. snatch block) donates 10% of its sales to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital for kids' cancer. Just wanted to put that out there - for other folks who've had young family that's been treated by places like Shriners and St. Jude's. Good goin', GA! Think I'll get the 4R's tree saver from 'em too. :thumb3:

Replaced front, rear diff and transfer case oil. The front and rear plugs were a huge headache and took the longest to deal with. I bought new plugs so I wouldn’t have to reuse the old almost rounded out ones :beer:

Well I just got my 4Runner, and I have big plans for it. But I started with removing the one of the rear seat cushions (in preparation for a ease-of-sleeping-in-the-back build).

After experiencing the TRAC “overlord shutdown” while driving in the snow, I decided to add a switch to defeat the trac, vsc,abs system on demand. Using a NC “normally closed” momentary switch on the center console, at the push of a button I can turn off the system. Thanks to member [MENTION=157388]bmw325_num99[/MENTION] for his write up.

You could wrap it or have it wrapped to color match. Mine is a wrapped chrome grill. You can't even tell.

Did you use vinyl from that Color Match Wrap website? I just discovered that site while looking for a good way to to body-match my chrome parts.
I would love to hear some personal experience.
Did it match the paint just right?
Did it seem like it was comparable to other vinyls as far as quality and ease of use?

I don't have any personal experience from that color match site but from the videos i have seen their products are really nice. Luckily for me I just needed a gloss black so it was a pretty easy match.

These are the ones I installed on my 2008 v6. No problem with fitting them in with the fans and the cutoff is maintained perfectly. This design has the slim led which I think gives it the better cutoff. You’ll notice a lot of LED bulbs have a thick piece on either side of the LED chip, I think that degrades the light spread.

I got those same one but they don't fit in the housing. The locking ring is much too small. Guessing I should have noticed that you had a 2008 and I have a 2005 with 9006 bulbs

My dashcam paid for itself several times over today. Picked up a nasty double chip right in my line of sight a couple of weeks ago driving to work on I-575. The company whose truck threw the rock stepped up and paid for it when I sent the video. I appreciated them not making it some huge PITA. I would have just done a repair on it had it not been right at eye level but having new glass is pretty sweet.

The rock, which was of significant size, is circled.

The new view:

I bought my truck in 2014 and it already had aftermarket glass. Not sure how old the windshield was but the difference is incredible without all the pitting. That bothered me almost as much as the damage and if you’re the same way, replacement might be a worthy investment at $200-$250 installed.

Pretty cool the dash cam caught the rock clearly - and that they ponied up. Know what you mean about the pitting. Mine was a Jersey vehicle all it's life until comin' here in November... The fine haze of pitting from road sand/salt is so bad throughout the windshield that it's hard to see into shadows when the sun's angling into it in the morning or evening. A friend told be about a buffing compound that may help. If it doesn't, my windshield may be havin' an accident.

Let us know on that buffing. I’ve asked several friends and nobody thought it could be done. Mine is pitted pretty bad as well and hard to see through it at times. Would love to have a clear windshield without having it replaced.

Suprised at how cloudy those headlight lenses get over time.

There's a method to the madness lol. I decided to use this as a starting point of where everything should like up with the factory front end. This way I'm not messing with 4 floating components to reference.

Plus the fenders are fiberglass and from what I cam tell ill probably have to shave them to make them sit flush with the bunper so a little more modification shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully it wasn't a terrible idea lol

While Aemravan's absolutely kickin' ass on his DIY Coastal bumper :thumb3:, my progress today's been far less structurally important and labor intensive. Yet maybe at least as fun. Worked on my riverfront doin' Spring maintenance (forearms now ripped up by $@&$*$#!! blackberry vines), but had time at beer-thirty for the 4R...

How did the install of the Victory 4x4 front and rear bumpers go? Take it off the road for a while or just a weekend project?
