What did you do with your 4runner today?

Factory exhaust finally gave up the ghost last month, so it was time to upgrade. Had a local shop install a Flowmaster 50 and reroute the exhaust to behind the rear passenger tire. Very pleased with the sound and look! Now time to tackle some rust :grimace:

I'm thinking of rerouting when I have to replace, tired of feeling the exhaust on my leg. Does it help at all with the blow-back when the rear window is opened a little and you accelerate hard? I would like a little better sound, but don't want the the whole neighborhood to hear me coming. Any thought will help. Thanks.

Definitely an improvement re: exhaust on the leg and odors in the cabin; sound isn't much different without the resonator, maybe a bit louder. One thing, if you've removed your mudflaps and have the larger SE tip, it kind of becomes a de facto mudflap. Looks good in this pic but it didn't stay clean for long. Tip just bolts on so I may take it off, still thinking it over.

Changed the engine oil
Tire rotation & balance.

Tomorrow will be spark plugs and serpentine belt swapped out.

The engines run like crap if the plug gap is too small. Make sure they are 0.044”. Just saying.

That’s a good safety point. I should probably change mine soon.

Unrelated: I’ve got some home improvement projects coming up. Boss of the company I work for is going to let me borrow his flatbed to make things easier, so I ordered a trailer brake controller last night. I’ll post pictures once its installed. I’ll be pouring a small concrete pad, but the dirt in the back yard is super dang hard so i’m going to borrow my grandad’s tractor to dig the hole out. I’ll also need a bit of rock for the base. Not sure how I’m going to get that home and unloaded yet. 4runner has some work ahead of it

Made a trip to the super center today. During my visit someone from a local 4x4 group left a rubber duck with a card on it.

Cleaned mud out of the door jams, can't say I am super impressed with the cleaning serviceability of this arrangement, seems like there are a ton of nooks and crannies for contaminants to get into and not be easily purged from.

Those of you that have run wires thru the firewall for switches or subs- whats the easiest way to get wires into the engine bay? Is there a factory location that is easy to add wires to? I'm hoping to get my subs out of my old truck into the engine bay. I might drill a hole and use a cordgrip for strain relief/weatherproofing but if there is an easier way to do it than that, I'd be super game.

There’s a little nipple on the side of the wiring harness where it passes thru the firewall that I cut a slit in with an x-acto knife and fed a wire thru with a little soap on it. I was able to run three 12 ga. wires thru to my lighting relays. Looking at the driver side firewall below the hood hinge the nipple is at about the 1:00 position on the bulkhead harness.

Ah thanks. For now it will be just two, I’m thinking of a 4awg red and black pair. I’ll take that into the back directly to the amp for now. In the future i’ll be running it into a small positive and negative busbar for an inverter, interior lights, and other accessories. Eventually the subs and other stuff will run off of an isolated battery and not the main battery, but one thing at a time.

Carpet and console/ front interior panels are still out while I continue on the interior cleaning project...

Took the cargo area carpet, double-deck thing, and rear interior panels off to clean the rodent crap.

I then dropped the headliner because I found carpet jute and more poop while peeking from the back. I guess the headliner has a nonporous layer between the sheetmetal side and the fabric side, because the sheetmetal side was stained black from the rodent poo/piss but didn't soak through the fabric, really gross :faint2: Sprayed the areas with Odoban (supposed to disinfect and eliminate urine/feces odors) and leaving the headliner out overnight, needs to be cleaned more but it was getting late. Also discovered those little bastards chewed off a section of sunroof drain hose.
