What did you do with your 4runner today?

Nice setup. I bought my Pioneer headunit, wiring harness, backup camera and remote start from Crutchfield about 2 years ago. In hindsight I regret not getting the iDatalink. I just got their wiring harness and Pac module to retain the steering wheel controls.

Thanks! I actually went with the RR2 idatalink. It lets you update the control options, etc via Bluetooth rather than pulling the whole system and reflashing. I didn't want to have regrets that I didn't spend the extra money on that when I have to tear apart the dash because I want to change the button layout.

That is the nice thing with the idatalink too. You can program your steering wheel buttons. Like the mode button that I have never used is now programmed to pull up the voice features using Android auto. A long press of the various buttons will pull up the nav, gauges, or tpms.

nice radio, im thinking of updating my system too, looking at the Pioneer DMH-WT8600NEX
i did the printout of the screen for mock up on my dash, it is just right to me.
too bad i need to spend around 1400-1500 for it. dont really need the adapter harness, but i just need to run the odb wires. my system hook up right now is just 4 wires, ignition, accessory and ground and remote turn on. thats why i really dont want to pay for that harness.

too bad i still cant buy it right now, saving the money i have to maintain the other 2 vehicles i take care of.

Thanks! Yeah I couldn't justify the extra cost of the wireless Android auto units myself. This whole setup with backup camera and everything came in at $800. I'm gonna give AAWireless a try to hopefully get wireless Android auto for much cheaper.

With the idatalink I had 6 wires I think since the JBL system doesn't use the speaker wires. Constant 12v, ignition 12v, ground, illumination, reverse, and the amp turn on. So it was very easy to wire up as well, the soldering took hardly any time. The rest is plugging in the harness and pulling the dash apart. The nice thing about the Kenwood I got is it is a shallow mount unit, so there's lots of space to shove everything into the dash.

got a pic of the harness that attach to the odb? i just need to know where the actual wires go on the plug, something like 6 and 14 for the can high and can low.

Changed my window weather seal all around - roll down window, snap out old seal, clean, replace new seal. For 4th gen 4Runner, for side windows, there’s a screw you need to unscrew before snapping out the seals. Just in time this coming winter.

Broken side window weather seal replaced with new (part number in photo). Note: for 4th generation 4Runner, there's a screw that holds the seal on the inside of the door.

Gonna cnc cut a piece to fit in the 2nd din spot or get a buddy to 3d print a pocket

Escaping death...

I originally started this quest to simply change rotors and pads all around as the RL pads were sticking & smoking some. No biggie, right?

Famous last words..

FL - frozen & hard line
FR - hard line - cracked & started leaking AS I REMOVED THE CALIPER!
RL - pads sticking & smoking
RR - completely soaked in diff fluid. Bad rear axle seal.

I haven't tallied the damage yet, but it's at least $500 easy as I got nice rotors & pads, front calipers & lines, grease, diff fluid, grease gun & grease, seal removal tool, and some other misc things I didn't have as I've been a bit of a nomad the last year.

Definitely be sure to know which size front rotors you have, that would have saved me 2 days :doh:

I have a problem with light

Does anyone ever got this problem ?! I have Toyota 4run 2005 and reverse and turn signal bulb on rear passenger side doesn’t work . Bulb are fine they new the right front turn signal is blinking unusual fast on dashboard and up front , but doesn’t work rear at all , I clean a connection but it’s not corrosion , also check with meter it doesn’t have any power in circuit what it can be , fuses are fine too ??? Plaese help if someone have any ideas

Both reverse and turn signal? Tail light is ok? The problem is causing your hyper flash, so that is normal. Fix the problem, fix the hyper flash. If you have no power at the socket, then that's your issue. You probably need to start tracing it back to check for broken wires. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Wow thank you bro. I was waiting for a sale and didn't know there was one with RCI. Just ordered a set of A arm skids and transmission skid plate to pair with my RCI skid plate. :banana:

what is the depth setting you have, is it fully extended out or just sunken in stock setting, still debating if i should get the 8600 model. i did the print out and it looks fine.

if bulbs are new, i think you just put the bulb sockets back in the tail light wrong.
you might want to take out the whole assembly to make sure its in right, hard to troubleshoot through a small hole.

Finally mounted my light bar. Cut out the lower portion of the grill to hide it somewhat.

Next thing I’m gonna do is new rims and bigger tires. Possibly a little more lift as well. Anyone have any good ideas currently I’m running 5100s with 5th gen coils.

I replaced the starter on my 2UZ and it wasn’t as bad as it looked honestly. The intake was off in less then an hour. I got the bypass joint out of the way no problem. And of course the dealer gave me the wrong O-ring for water bypass pipe sub assy…and the closest dealer is about an hour away. Pretty tough to get to when your intake is off…other then that things went smoothly and she LIVES again!!

Replaced the drivers side rear wheel speed sensor in the hopes of clearing the DSC warning lights that have been my constant companion for a while. Had the ABS codes scanned a few months ago and that was the point of fault. Welp, didn't;t clear anything (I had disconnected the battery as well) so I took it up to a local AZ and now the passenger side rear is showing as faulty. Grrr...

I replaced the rear diff fluid and engine oil on my wife’s 4R and also did the front diff and transfer case fluid on my 4R. Only a few more things to do to get both up to maintenance and level of mods we want.

Mine was also leaking but my starter was going bad. You could here the solenoid click on there would be a delay and sometimes she’d start most time the solenoid would just click back off. So I wanted to make sure both got done while I was in there.

What up good people? I’m new to all this so please forgive my ignorance and appreciate any feedback/info you all have. Just got my first 4Runner the other day (05 Limited V8).

1. Everything is currently stock (JBL setup) and working as expected. Looking to upgrade the head unit to have a touchscreen, apple carplay, and a backup camera. Those are my must haves. Suggestions?

2. Curious to how much this all may run too? I will be paying to install. My gut was saying 300-500?

3. After some reading on here I see that some offer the cars data (tire PSI, temps, etc) which is cool and would include those if possible. Feel free to enlighten me on the benefits of any other headunits or features I’m not aware of.
