What did you do with your 4runner today?

Took the old girl out a few weekend ago and got up into the mountains exploring a bit. The trail I took was a *lot* easier than last time (a few years ago), thanks to current mods

As penance, I spent 8ish hours detailing today Not my favorite job in the world, but I sure do love the results.

The paint had a lot of mud baked into it that wouldn't come out. A claybar took care of it! Lots of polishing came next, followed by a ceramic wax (we'll see how it holds up). Some pics of the mud spots that wouldn't was out:

I finally went up a tire size. I put some General Grabber AT/X in 285/75/16 on her yesterday. Definitely some rubbing going on. I’ll get to that on Friday morning!!

This arrived today. I like it in the garage and look forward to seeing how it stacks up to the stock setup in real-world use. Fit is nice and the phone slot is very handy since I often have my work and personal phones. Note that it only fits one way, with the larger opening on the passenger side.

In case anyone is curious, coasters are from Etsy and my daughter made the shifter sticker when she had a custom decal business.

Recently I spent almost a full day diagnosing electrical issues with my dash lights. They stopped working after I had my window open in a drive thru at a fast food restaurant while it was raining. Upon exhausting all my troubleshooting ideas, I did some searching and I found this thread. Turns out I am an idiot and turned down the dimmer switch by accident when wiping down my dash. Crisis averted.

Got the truck in for plastics trimming this morning. It was slightly rubbing on the body mount also when fully compressed. So we decided to give it a little make over!! The pics aren’t that great the before was the passenger side and the actual work pics are from the driver side. I’ll upload a pic of the finished product I kinda forgot to take it!

Happy new year everybody. Today I plasti-dipped the grill on my T4R. I have to say I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a cold day today so the application of the plasti-dip was kinda rough, you have to lay it on thick and do a good number of coats. I used about 2/3 of a can to do the grill. The emblem pops out so I was able to do the whole project without any masking. I did remove the grill from the vehicle, theres just a handful of 10mm fasteners, pretty happy with the outcome and relative ease of doing it.

I got to discover that my rig actually DOES have rust lol… just not where everyone else does on the frame, but rather on the one part I never use.. my sunroof.

Seems to be a fairly common issue due to a crappy design and failing seal that allows water to pool under the seal and not get out into the drain.

Prob gotta get a new sunroof assembly put in and seal, and maybe roof skin if thats going too. Its one of the reasons I personally dont like sunroofs but I understand that lots of people love them. After seeing his picture I went and checked mine

Started off 2022 by hitting this on the odometer - on the 2nd of course.

How on earth do you fix this?

Well I haven't really fixed it yet, just patched it up. Knocked down all the rust with a wire brush, sprayed it with some primer, and filled everything I could fill under and around the seal to the glass with some silicone caulking. Even if I could get a cheap sunroof assembly there is no way I can justify the amount of time it would take to take it out and replace it.

The main issue is the top seal failing allowing the water to get between the glass and the metal cage it sits in and not being able to drain like it would if the water got in around the seal into the drain track. Definitely a design issue on Toyota's part. It seems that either you're a norther environment where your frame rusts, or sunny location like Florida where your upper seal breaks down and your roof rusts lol.

Got pulled out by a Jeep yesterday. First time getting stuck for me. I was totally beached, fully laying on the underbelly.

This trail should of been doable but the recent rain made everything so slippery and made a bunch of soft trenches that I kept getting pulled into. I made it a little over 3/4ths the way up. Trail is called Truck Hill. A lot steeper than it looks

Tires and wheels! I absolutely hated my wildpeaks and could never get rid of the vibration. Falken was nice enough to take them back

I put another bead of silicone around each seal and hooked them back up. Only to find out when it rained 30 minutes later…..drumroll please…….MOISTURE AGAIN! Moisture in headlights is one of the reasons I still have my OEM healights that are hazed over real bad. I’m either going to do the Chrisfix wetsanding and then rattlecan clearcoat to fix them, or buy new Toyota housings and then get real nutjob with aiming them. The’re somehow still deadnuts aimed perfectly after 270,000 miles so I dont wanna throw it off by screwing with it but they’re just terrible looking with the haze. I dont wanna go thru the trouble of replacing them only to wind up with water inside with getting aftermarket. :/

Forum policy aside its my understanding that the front end has a lot of subtle differences.

I’m not sure where homie has his stuff made but if its injection molded overseas its a long and complicated establishing relationships with vendors and getting samples and potentially very large minimum order quantities and having to do that twice for the two different front ends can add a lot of time to the process. Vendors will sometimes deliver great samples and then absolute shite product at volume because QC is sometimes non existent from establishments.

what tires did you replace them with. I’m about halfway thru the Coopers I have now in 265/70/17 and they’re decent enough but I’m not blown away by them.

I intend to go up to P285/70/17 when I get new tires but I’m torn between Goodyear Duratracks which are on one of the execs at work’s 2015 TRD Pro Tacoma (they were AWESOME on one of the trips we went on) or the Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
