What did you do with your 4runner today?

For the 4th gen I did take up @Auxito on their offer for a free set of bulbs in exchange for a review. I got a set of high beams for the 4th gen.

I put one of the auxito bulbs in one side, and left the original in the other. I covered the opposite bulb and took the pictures below.

The Auxito bulbs are amazingly bright for such a small package. I'm very happy with them and would recommend them. I'll update on reliability/longevity as things progress, but they've been in there for about 6 weeks without issues now and she does get parked outside. Feel free to tag me in the future if you want an update.

I was concerned about heat generation and dissipation, but the little fan on the bulb does a good job. I compared the temps of the Auxito to the Halogen bulb and the Auxito actually stayed slightly cooler over a 10-15 minute test so that was good to see.

These bulbs are perfect for increasing night time vision without mounting aftermarket lights. They give the big auxillary lights on the front of my 3rd gen a pretty good run for their money.

And also not today, but a couple months ago took a trip down to the gulf coast and got a good picture of the Salsa Red Pearl. One of the best colors for the 4th gen, in my opinion.

Pretty decent MPG also, it reads about 4-5% high typically compared to hand calculated MPGs. The bigger tires actually made it more accurate.

I replaced the front caliper pins then cleaned and reinstalled the pads with disc brake quiet. I developed a nasty noise from my driver side brake in the middle of a trail yesterday and couldn’t find anything wrong except some weird scarring on the outside face of the rotor. It almost sounded like a rock in between the backing plate and rotor. I cut the trip short due to the noise and limped it home. All seems fine but I’m not convinced it was due to worn out pins. Might be time to upgrade to 338mm SE rotors. I also did a body mount chop on the passenger side. The last two times out the tire rubbed that mount but never really hit it before.

Thanks! Wasn't a big fan of how "tubey" it was haha. Going simpler this time around with a higher up hitch. The center section will be very similar to the CAD model, already bent up the top hat piece in the 110* garage lol

Worked on the rear axle this weekend, pretty happy with the result. This is only after the Corroseal coat. Still needs Rustoleum and RP342 top coats. With that being said I'm never buying a vehicle that lived in the salt belt again!

It does. I sold my old bumper for $700 and thought I’d pocket the profits and make my own similar to the TNF bumper with some upgrades I think will be good. TNF bumper has some things I don’t like about it and some things I do like.

Finally got my DD shelf installed and then built a bigger shelf / sleeper platform for the back. It all comes out in 5 minutes to go back to stock with the DD, or can use the shelf for work. Can use any combination of seat up or down as well. Fits a full size mattress.

Thank your for the trade! Slowly getting things marked off the list of things to do to her. The last of the dash lights and cluster lights and auxiliary power ports are next!

Transfer case motor issues… truck is stuck in low gearing. Transmission is shifting all funky too. It gets to 5th gear around 25mph. Pretty sure the transfer case motor is seized. Hoping that replacing it fixes everything.

Climate Display Inversion

Installed the reverse polarity kit for the climate display as part of my interior blackout project. Not sure if the kits are still being sold but I found them through my searching on the forums.

The install isn't too difficult. There's two new LED's to install that need to be grounded. Then you have to remove the original display film and replace it with the polarizing film. The polarizing film needs to be oriented properly to give you a "black" display. The LED's with the ground wire are a bit delicate so I had to test the display a few times before fully reinstalling as removing the main harness had the tendency to make one side of the display go out. With some patience it worked out well.

Unfortunately I broke the lower storage cubby below the display in the process. The little tabs on the bottom that allow it to rotate down broke off so you have to really force the cubby out now. Only replacements I can find on eBay include the entire dash bezel so I don't exactly want to spend so much for one piece. If anyone has an extra, hit me up!
