what do i need to update entune

Now that Toyota has mostly C&D the dropbox flash update, and my head unit has gone to hell on its own...

What do I need to say specifically to my Toyota dealer to have him/her/it give me the update USB drive and flash my head unit to the newest version?

I tried to get this fixed in Alabama and they told me to call Toyota corporate and have them sell me the USB drive...

Wow that's such bs! My head unit was going crazy and I just went in and told them what was happening and they had a tech come out and use the flash drive to update it for me. They even forgot it in my runner and I had to come back to drop it off to them.

I had to go to my local dealership, just rolled in and said that my radio was freezing up on me and that it had tried to update once before but received a phone call and it stopped it. They took my baby for a few hours and updated it along with some recall issues. They seemed to know exactly what to do and I haven't had an issue since then.

Thanks, everyone, just updated to 5.1.

Toyota does a great job of hiding the update files on their web site:/, and not all dealers have the magic USB drive or even understand how to do the update... or that putting in a USB stick for 5 minutes should be free.

Glad you were able to get it fixed. I agree with you - they hide the updates well! It was nice when they finally started adding the option for customers to do the update themselves. I had bookmarked the threads that jrandom mentioned a while back just for that purpose.

And I still can't believe a dealer told you to contact Toyota to buy a USB from them! That's crazy! I can't even imagine what they would try to charge you for doing that.

Anyone know if there are firmware (not the one you can do through your phone+Entune app) updates for the 2016 vehicles with Entune? I tried this one with the link about but it does not proceed. Probably because it is not for my head unit...
