What is an acceptable back space on 16x8 rim?

I've been searching all over, but cannot find what the safe MINIMUM back spacing would be for 16"x8" steel wheels running 265/75/R16 Tires.

Does 2" sound like it is too little and would create too much stress on the bearings and ball joints"? These are custom made by someone else that has abandoned their project and is parting out. I would like to buy them, but not if they will damage my rig in the long run.

Any thoughts would be appreciated....Thanks.

Those wheels will stick out CRAZY far!!

I'm running 16x8's with 4" backspacing and my tire/wheel combo sticks out about an inch past the big Sport Ed. flares on my 2001. I think 4" BS is perfect on a 16X8, and I wouldn't go any less than that.

Yup. You might still need spacers if you're running 285/75s and 4.5" BS or you may not (depending on brand of tires an if they're ATs or MTs). 4" and even 4.25" will guarantee that you won't rub 285s on the UCA.

Can you post up any pics showing us how much your tires stick out? I'm wanting to get possibly 16 x 8 wheels with 3.75 BS at a later date.

Just looked at the build. Good read. Would you think 16x8 wheels with 265/75 R16 tires would be pretty flush with the fender flares? It's for a 2001 SR5. The wheels I'm looking at are 4.25" BS.
