some people manage to do it with the stock wheels, but they have rubbing issues if they aren't running a narrower tire.

i have the wheelers type A rims that i believe are 4.5" backspacing. no issues.

the b's are also popular with a 3.75" backspacing, but they cause the tires to stick way out of the wheel wells if you don't have flares.

so, based on this, i would say you could run a 16x8" wheel with anywhere from 4.5"-3.5" backspacing, depending on what stance you are going for.

My wheels are 16x8 with 4.5 offset and I'm running 33x12.50 SSR's.

Spacing

Stock 16x7 Toyota 6 spoke rims and 1/4 inch home-made solid one piece aluminum spacers with 1/4 inch longer studs. Tires are 265/75R16 Bridgestone A/T Revos and 285/75R16 Bridgestone M/Ts on two different sets of the same rims.
