It's an item that someone bought and returned. The item was checked and anything faulty fix then resold at a discount with the same warranty as if it were new so if something goes wrong again they either fix it or send a new one.

It's sometimes also called "factory renewed"

No, I'm curious about the fact that the carrots kenwood
Has a 30 day warranty and you said you had a full warranty

I looked high and low and could not find any kind of warranty on refurb kenwoods other than 30 day. There was some mention of 3rd party extended warranty available, but no links to these 3rd parties. I haven't called to ask either though.

FYI, $499 for a 6160 is a heck of a deal. More than $200 less than the employee pricing on a 6180 from bestbuy.

AND

A new unit only carries a 1 year warranty. So if you install it ASAP and use it a lot in the 30 days, you should be reasonably assured you have a good unit. Most of the items i've had break have been either immediately or long after the warranty was up.

Interesting, where'd you read that? When I ordered mine it said it kept the full warranty... I dunno if I would've bought it had it not said that...

edit: ok I saw what you saw... maybe because the 9960 is excelon it kept the full warranty?
