What % of posts are non-mallcrawlers?

When I joined the site not long ago, there were a ton of good tech posts and other posts that were more up my ally... It was pretty exciting so ofcourse i joined! Now it seems nearly 95% of the posts are from or about mall crawlers... Not that theres anything wrong with that, its just not what drew me to the site.
So, I guess what I'm asking is; is this normal, and I just happend to find the site while the gear-heads were active? Or do the gearheads just post in surges? Lol.. Good site either way.

I don't thing the site has changed much even since when I joined, I still get find good information to learn about the truck from others.

It hasn't changed in the year I've been here. I do agree that probably 85-90% of people on this forum never actually go off-roading, maybe a dirt road at best.

You can get a rough idea from peoples sig lines.
If it deals with window tint and floor mats or gearing and tires.

Use google man. We all know this search function kinda blows. Or maybe they fixed it. Hell, idk. I just know I type whatever I'm looking for into google and put "Toyota 4Runner forum." After it.

That, or you can just spend hours reading and book marking pages so you don't have to go through them again later.

Never know, might find something that you thought sounded stupid, but turns out its really awesome.

That being said:

There's a lot of great posts on here.

So what if some of them are about mall crawlers. I know, for a fact, that there are plenty of people out here that use the snot out of their Runner for more than just wheeling.

These are the people that have families, and really can't afford wheel, because time doesn't allow them to. The ones that want to protect their family with one of the best vehicles out there.

A lot of these people love wrenching, just don't want to break the truck, because it happens to be a DD or whatever.

I know that if I could've found something else, I would've gone with the runner as my designated DD, and used an old PU for a wheeler.

I got lucky with my son. He LOVES to wheel. And so does my girlfriends daughter. My girlfriend, not so much. After being in a wreck where her car rolled 6 times, and breaking her neck, having a vertical Odontoid screw, I can see why though. (I'm workin on it.....)

This site is still one of the best on the net for information regarding 4Runners. Time and time again, I find repeat posts from newbies. But no one over here flames them like they do on TTORA.

Plus, these look pretty BA with a lift and bumpers. Or stock. Either way, these things are BA.

Please, don't take my post as saying you're an unappreciative asšhole for the wealth of knowledge we've given you. I'm not saying that at all. If I were, I'd straight out say it.

Enjoy the site. Contribute to the site. Love the site. Don't hate the mall crawlers. They very well could be the one that saves you ass one day.

I think there are a lot of web wheelers on here more than anything.. Not necessarily mall crawlers. The scenery here changes sometimes. I've seen days of steady good informative tech, and I've seen countless days on just off topic babbling. Biggest thing I have to keep reminding myself is this isn't necessarily an offroad forum, so majority of the members aren't going to go hit up hard trails like I would. It's pretty much people just wanting to show off their upgrades. Which I get, but not everyone uses their upgrades the same way I or the next person would..

Wow, slow down and read the full post before getting mad. I don't use "mall crawlers" as a rude or hurtfull term..(btw, you seem to understand the culture it represents just fine) I rather like most of the rigs I see here. I simply use it to group a catagory of posts.
I do like this site, as stated in OP. I do appreciate the wealth of knowledge, and I'm not complaining about who I meet, what I learn or what is posted. I simply asked about the sway and ebb of posting here; from heavy metal to... lets say soft rock... as to not offend your fragile sensabilities.
That said, there are some really sweet rigs here. I would have a mall crawler also, but I can't afford one. My truck gets nasty looks from people as I try to pull it into any gas station with a concrete lot.. (the tires squeal no matter how slowly I corner; spools do that) So I actually mallcrawl with a 91 Tercel... not nearly as cool as ANY mallcrawler here! lol

It costs money to go offroading. cause usually its not in your back yard and you have to travel a pretty good distance just to get there. not to mention people work all week so that doesnt mean they can wheel all the time. we build our rigs to have fun when we do infact go wheeling. its those that are fortunate enough to have a dd vehicle that can truly use there runner when they get the chance. offroading is not cheap. and the economy and gas prices dont help either....

I usually go with jeeps, not by choice but it's what some of my buddies are into.

I'm not sure what to say... you mean it's just a million threads on lifts and stuff right? Otherwise I think I still understand. The important thing is that there are knowledgeable people that can answer your questions. I tried yotatech first, for about a day, until I realized about 95% of the members weren't active. where's the fun in that?

lol that post above made me think of this "You could wheel a jeep... if you're into that kinda thing" like it's a bad thing.

SV Dude and Footofgod seem to hit the trails a lot, check out their posts.

Trails are in our back yard so we dont have much of an excuse.

We are hitting Metberry March 23 for a camp weekend if you are interested.

Met SV and FoG up on eaglerock the other day, pretty cool guys! I'm more than happy to hit the trails every chance I get, so certainly let me know anytime you plan on going up. Even tho I know I shouldn't I run up solo pretty often (like you said.. Its right here and hard to turn down! Lol) I was thinking of doing a day run in and out on hackett pretty soon.. Just haven't decided when yet.
I want to run independence again and seeing if I can talk SV and FoG into it. They both kinda cringed when I mentioned it! Lol I think they may have thought I meant really soon while theres a chance of snow on it... But no way would I run it with snow! Maybe this spring

you are hooked up with the right guys for sure for trails and tech stuff.

I have not done Hackett yet, it is on the list. That may be a good Feb run for me. Although I learned a little more respect for ice this weekend, April/ May might be better timing.

I would say that the characterization that 90% of the trucks on here only mall crawl isn't too far off, but i could also say that many of the trucks on here mall crawl 90% of the time, which is also different. For example most of my driving is to and from the train or my girlfriends house, but i used all of my trucks capabilities and upgrades on a recent trip to Montreal and VT during a huge snowstorm. I don't need bilsteins, 32s etc, 90% of the time, but i did during that trip and that was the reason why i did them. If you are looking .for more off road oriented posts, check toyota120 or ih8mud.

i think it comes in waves... like ARKRWLR said, there are days of tech and great tech at that, i think we have the best possible group of people here, for the most part we are all friendly and respectful and a lot of us have a ton of knowledge, and while some of us may but heads from time to time, most of us dont get bent out of shape and we are adult enough to either let it go or apologize for being an ass-hat. and then there are days more like weeks sometimes, where its just random stuff, but thats ok, because i dont always have days i can go wheeling so i like hearing and seeing mods other people do, it gives me ideas on things i can do with my rigs... also my 97 is my dd as well as my work truck and family vehicle for camping trips and road trips, so it kinda has to be a jack of all trades. it has to be comfortable for the kids, and wife, but yet rugged and manly enough for me to be seen buying my wife flowers and other girly crap.. :lol: i dont think you will find a better forum anywhere online. we tend to weed out the online bad-ass' pretty fast. and idk about you, but from the looks of your rig, you are also interested in keeping it look clean and nice. most guys over on pirate and other places would flame you for asking about "best way to clean the carpets" or "buff out a scratch" ect... they would tell you to just pull the carpet, or use a bigger rock to buff out the scratch... thanks but i dont like beating the chit out of my truck for no reason -its the same reason i didnt join the marines...
