What % of posts are non-mallcrawlers?

From the 5th gen side of things there is a LOT of people who buy one who have never been off road but are "intrigued" by it. On my 2011 SR5 I put 63K miles on it with about 100 miles or so off road. The percentage is small but it is really important! On my 2012 I will do about the same with a little more off road this time. I will probably keep this one 100K+ miles though, or about 3-4 years. IMO there is no difference is a new guy wheeling on a dirt road to someone like Intruder or SOcalTRAIL wheeling on a No road, or trail, or path or anything. I ride a lot of mountain bikes and sometimes getting TO the trail to ride is a challenge.
Many buy these trucks for snowy areas too. So, no matter if it is a question about floor mats or a question about rockwell hardness or a Sharpy "V" test or what the he!! is viscosity anyway I try to help. Most on here are good people. Jtraskell had a question about a fuel transfer system, totally unrelated to the 4Runner, but he called me up and asked. That is the kind of place this is.

The reason for me joining was attitudes. I have been on far too many forums where someone will ask a question, get six different answers, lead by six arguments and the OP never gets any help. Or people get "flamed" (I hate that word) for asking questions that other members felt were dumb, or already covered.

That's not the case here. People are genuinely helpful and that makes things easier for everyone.

I would agree that the majority of the user-base here are "mall-crawlers." Is that a bad thing? Not in the slightest. In fact I consider myself to be a mall crawler.... when I'm not on the trail!!! I like to keep my truck spotless when I'm in town and always have people asking me "do you ever take that truck offroad?". I just laugh.

I think this forum is great for everyone. As much as I like seeing a gritty tech article, I also like some pretty pics of modded 4Runners, and all the creative little mods that people come up with. With a wide user base like T4R, your going to get a wide range of discussion and it's not always going to be hardcore offroad tech - but I'm cool with that. I'm happy that this forum is an excellent resource for many and all things 4Runner. You probably won't see many 4Runner buggies around here but there's a bit of pretty much everything else.

When I organize wheeling trips, I'm usually on my local forum or simply calling the guys up who I want to go out with. As much as I like all you American's, your pretty far away for me to call up and ask to come wheeling! haha :canada: Although I have met some great members on this forum and can say that I do hope to meet a few of you someday.

I've been active on this forum for 2-3 years now and I honestly think it's been getting exponentially better. More active members, more discussion, more innovation. I consider T4R to be one of the more active forums out there, next to Tacomaworld. I also love expeditionportal, but as far as updates go, IMO it blows. The same threads are bumped TTT for 2-4 days.

/pointless comments.

I'd say I'm mostly a mall-crawler, but I do hit the beach on the weekends. That's the whole reason I bought my 4Runner, was to be able to drive on the beaches in Corolla, NC.

Exactly. That's why alot of the people on here go wheeling with other Toyotas, just not normally Toyotas.
4-Ripcord went to Moab with Tacomas
Hawk and I go with FJ's all the time.

I wheel with tacomas, not many 4runners in my area are down to wheel

^this is what ive noticed. for examle, everyone talks in the tacomaworld new mexico bs thread and we have lunch/dinner meets and wheeling meets periodically. ive been following the new mexico bs thread on here and no one has posted anything in the last month

infact, thats jim (4-ripcord) in the blue shirt below the last time the TW guys had a wheeling meet at our favorite place just outside of albuquerque

I like the mix. The way I use my truck is unusual. Huge amounts of mileage off-pavement but with very few mods (stock suspension). I kind of sit between both worlds, but am interested in many things I see coming from each.

I enjoy the he## out of my truck and the constantly expanding familiarity with it, helped immensely by online info with this forum front and center, results in a feedback loop that makes the enjoyment never go away.
