Hey guys, I've found what seems to be a pretty good deal on an 02 4runner limited with a slipping transmission. It seems like I could get a used trans pretty cheaply, install it, and be on my way. I was particularly looking for a newer model because of the multi-level 4wd and would like to keep that. I know it's an a340f transmission, but do I need one from an 01-02 or will any allow me to keep this feature? I've done some searching but can't find anyone else with the same question. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks so much. Btw, if I buy it, this will be my first 4runner so I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!

Yes, it needs to be from the same year or forward one not previous as they are not "full electronic" shifting transmissions once you make it to 99 or back. Not sure about the diff controls, but i've seen many different ones on this site, do a search here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...faq-tutorials-documentation-reference-v2.html

You need a transmission from a 2001-2002 ONLY. No other years will work. 01-02 use an electronic kickdown, instead of a cable controlled kickdown. Amongst other differences.
The 01-02 Transmissions are very difficult to find, and seem to have a very high failure rate. Unsure what exactly fails, but seems like I get calls 2-3 times a week for the 01-02 Transmissions, but I have a stack of 96-00 sitting on my shop floor taking up space.
