What Would You Do First?

I'd like to start upgrading my LE to a off-road capable ride. What would you do first? I'm a true beginner, so I'm sure I'm going to be asking a LOT of questions.

If you were to do a first upgrade to an LE, what would you tackle first?

Lift kit?
Wheels?
Tires?
Something else?

For whatever you'd recommend, what brands would you go with? I've read that Duratrac seems to be the go-to brand.

I'd like to get a Gobi on for this summer's camping/backpacking/cycling trek... trying to convince my wife to let me drop the $1495 on the rack may be a challenge.

I'd save up and do it all at once, that way you can go straight to 285s and possibly a 17x9 wheel.

Search the forums, a lot of people run duratracs.

Congrats on your T4R!

First Lift & 33" tires for better clearance and traction. 285-70-17 equates to slightly under 33". Then rock sliders for side protection. The under armor. These things protect you from rocks. Then bumper (front-back), roof rack. Theres no end to this addiction .

Question yourself what you ultimately want to do with your rig. Fire road trail? Rock climbing? Desert racing? Mall crawler? Then pick the right suspension for your needs and budget. Happy shopping!!!

sliders first, for some rocker panel protection, i'd say. the Limited 20"s are less than ideal off pavement, so maybe get some 17" wheels waiting in the wings too. then, when you take it off-road, i'll bet it will force the "new tires" issue fairly quickly.

1) recovery gear. D rings, snatch strap, gloves, air compressor, tire repair kit, etc.
2) AT tires. Duratrac or Toyo. In your case it may require 17" or 18" wheels too.
3) rock sliders. Bud built
4) armor skid plates. Bud built
5) upgrade suspension. Icon or arb
6) winch. On bud built plate or shrockworks bumper
