What's the best 2-DIN Nav HU?

Eclipse AVN5435 $1899 Eclipse AVN5495 $2399

You can usually get a authorized dealer down another couple hundred bucks off prices listed above. I ordered the AVN5495 and my dealer threw in a Sirius tuner for $149. Remember buy from a authorized dealer so you can obtain a 3 year warranty. Ebay is nice in all but sometimes you can get stuck with refurbs or b stock items because Eclipse doesn't authorize online sales in anyway shape or form. Not to mention if you buy from a dealer if something does go wrong with the unit they just swap it out with another one..
 
Thanks LizardKing! I just can't see a $500 difference worth a 30GB harddrive. I guess I'll be going with the AVN5435, now I just need to find a place that has it. The two dealers (Tweeters and Myer-Emco) in my area that both used to carry Eclipse have stopped carry the company. Tweeter told me they had an issue with Eclipse stocking their inventory, which lead to them dropping the line.
 
Do you have a cartoys in your area? They sell the 5435 for $1600. The rep said the 5495 will be out in may sometime. I wanted the 5495 also but I am like you guys, I don't think the extra 800 bucks is worth it. I still get Navigation it just runs off of the DVD. Do i understand this correctly?
 
From my understanding, the navigation runs off the DVD-rom drive, and it's required to be in that drive at all times when using the navigation feature. There is also a separate CD-rom dirve on the AVN5435 model.

No there are no CarToys stores in my area. I've checked their website and they advertise the older model for $1999 (http://www.cartoys.com/cartoys/showdetl.cfm/Product_ID/70364/). If I could have them ship it to me, then I'll be more then happy as $1600 is much better then what I expected. I'll have to give them a call later on. I live in the Washington, DC metopolitian area, when I called the dealer locater number on the Eclipse website, the feature failed.

From what I remember reading another board, you need to stick in the NAV DVD when you first set the route. Then you can take it out and it's fine unless you veer too much off path.

I think you can even do NAV & play a DVD if you do this. Someone with a 5435 should verify this though.
 
Crap. I just called the store. Those people just raised the priced to 1700. That is total crap. They told me 1600 about a week ago. I will try to talk them back down. Here is there phone number if you want to check it out still (303) 743-9991



BTW, the older model which is $1999 will be replaced with the 5495 which is 2400.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work with the 5435. You need the Nav DVD in at all times to use the Nav feature. I know it works with the pioneer avic-n1/n2 though.
 
You guys with the jbl system, what is the width of the opening ? I just measured mine which is the standard radio opening and it
 
Measurement for JBL

I did my best to measure the opening for the JBL and came up with the following dimensions: 8 7/8" wide at bottom, 8 9/16" at the top, with a 1/4 inch rounding at the top, by 4 1/8' high. It should be like davisc23 said in that it's the same opening as the non-jbl systems w/o the recess. Someone might want to concur as it isn't a perfect rectangle.

BTW, I found a shop in the DC area that sells the AVN5435 for $1700, they don't have it in the shop so they would have to order one. I'm going to stop by the store on Saturday so I can get their opinion on the installation. I'm kind of skeptical using a random dealer to do the install, so I might have Tweeter do the installation.

The stock radio is smaller then teh JBL so the Eclipse will actually fit in there much better. The stock radio is 4" tall which is the same as the Eclipse. The only issue we will have is the Eclipse is only 7" wide where are opening is 8" on stock radios. The brackets on Ebay will work for the sides and there shouldn't be any gap at the top for stock systems. As for the differences in the AVN5435 and AVN5495 is below.

NND, what shop sells it for $1700? The only shop I've found it so far is in Annapolis and they want $1900... I was going to go there this weekend a take a peak at it, haven't actually seen it in person yet (but I still want it either way).
 
Jay_marx, I don't know the name of the store as I was connected to them by calling the Eclipse dealer locator number, and I couldn't understand they guy when he said the name, but it's located on Guide Drive in Rockville by Norbeck. I'm going to stop by there on Saturday and have them take a look at my SUV. They don't have it in stock, but they can order it for $1700.

Whats your thoughts on sound quality with the Eclipse AVN5435? Even with out all the sound shaping options of other decks do you still feel this deck is worth it?
