What's the best 2-DIN Nav HU?

I remember someone just grounded the wire, maybe the speed sensor wire, to do that. Search these forums for that post.
Right...I know that I could take the dash apart after they do the install and ground the parking wire, but what about asking the installer to do it while they install the unit?
Doubt they would be up for this, as I know it's illegal to watch DVD while moving.

Just tell them to leave the parking brake wire where you can get to it.. Then just ground it and your good to go!
Sams Camera install done!!
I bought a mini surveillance camera from Sams. Color and IR I installed it this weekend. I attached it to the Eclipse 5435 camera port and it works great. The cost of the camera was $39.00. I am posting this as an alternative to the $200 + Eclipse camera...

Ok. So I received my brand new Eclipse AVN 5435 today. Everything was fine until I opened the box and saw all those cables. How am I going to install this thing??????:awais:
It's too bad that no one who installed this unit didn't take any pics. That would help me a lot !!!!
Well we'll se.. I'll get my 4R back on Saturday from body shop so Sunday is my installation day...There will be many question

Cables? There can't be that much to it!! It don't have a hideaway box .

I was intimidated by all the cables/adapters as well. Take your time and double check your connections and splices.
The one thing I forgot to do was hook the antenna power wire (blue-on Eclipse adapter) to the black wire bundled to the antenna hookups on my 4Runner. I got horrible reception on AM and FM. When I looked at the wiring diagram I realized that the 4Runner came with an antenna booster (black wire bundled with Antenna hookups). I attached the blue wire to the black. Now my 5435 can turn on the antenna booster and I can hear AM/FM channels perfectly.
It was a tight fit installing the 5435 with all the pre-outs and input RCA adapters. After a couple of times I finally was able to get the 5435 to fit.
Let me know if you have any questions. I am so glad that I made this upgrade. The Stock NAV doesn't even compare to this head unit.

OK, this may not be the most intelligent question or maybe I missed something... But I am starting to consider upgrades to my 2005 SR5 and I just found out that my dad might be willing to help me out in upgrading my stereo... (He feels bad he took away the limited and THEN found out I got a scholarship...) Anyway, The eclipse unit is a Headunit, with a DVD/CD player and a hard drive whioch can store navigation Data if connected to a second party antenna right? It is not all in the box correct? I am slightly confused because I am looking at the Pioneer AVIC-N2 DVD/CD/navigation receiver with 6.5" monitor and had been until i found this post. Now I am kind ofthinking this might be better for me and I love the HD idea... Anyway, the Pinoneer is 1999.99 with everything... but I would buy an ipod adapter to connect my Ipod. How much is the eclispse unit, with installation, DVD software (and where do you buy this?) Antenna, and everything else I would need? Also, do youy think it would be a bad Idea for me to try and install it? I could probably figure it out but got slightly confused with all this talk over ground wires for the speedometer, parking break and everything... Tahansk in advance, joe

Yes the Eclipse would be the way to go! Eclipse makes pure SQ decks and are considered my many as the best. You can get two models the AVN5435 or the AVN5495 (not released yet). They both are all in one units with no stupid hideaway box. The GPS antenna plugs right into the deck. The AVN5435 has two slots one for DVD and one for CD. The DVD slot is used for the Navigation or watching DVD's. The CD slot is used for regular music cd's, mp3's etc etc. The AVN5495 (Flagship model) is the hard drive based unit with 30gb hard drive and 10gb is for Nav software. The AVN5495 is more for the audiophile crowd. You want to buy the units from authorized dealers. You can get the AVN5435 from $1600-$1800. The AVN5495 will be going for $2100-$2600. Go to http://www.eclipse-web.com and you can find a dealer and read about the AVN5435. They don't have the AVN5495 listed yet but they will send you the 2005 brochure with the specs and pictures of the AVN5495.

There are some issues with this solution. I will post some photos later. The camera is on a small pedestal and is intended to be mounted upright. I installed the camera next to the trailer hitch which required me to install it upside down. Therefore the image is upside down. No problem, I took the case apart and turned the camera over now the image is rightside up.
Second issue, there is a photocell in the camera that determines when to turn on the IR. It is mounted to the back of the circuit board in the camera. Out of the box this photocell is pointed at an opening in the top of the case that lets light in. When you turn the camera over there is no hole for the light to enter through. Therefore, the IR is always on and you only get a black and white image.
The fix and the last issue. I repositioned the photocell so it was pointing through a hole I drilled in the front of the case and all works well. Last issue, now you have a hole for light and WATER. Water and electrical components don't mix. I put a piece of clear tape over the hole but I am not convinced it will hold up to an automatic car wash.
My advice is buy one of the $49 keyhole cameras for sale on Ebay they are waterproof and they also reverse the image so it looks like it does in your mirror. Sorry for the long post!!
