Thank You for more info. I'm thinking about Eclipse camera but something cheaper would be nice... Yours from Sams is not an option anymore because there is to many things to change. I wonder if one made by Eclipse has better picture that those from ebay... Anyway, I would like to see some pics of our install when you get chance to post them..
 
Has NE1 tried to integrate with JBL 6 disc?

I was wondering if anyone tried to integrate the eclipse with the stock JBL 6 disc speakers and amp?

I know that the JBL unit sends out a digital signal to the amp (or amps?) So, the question is asked, how do I remove the JBL head unit and replace with Eclipse, then integrate the Eclipse HU into the stock speakers and amps?

Has anyone tried this and been successful?

2 Questions

I just had a local shop do the installation and I have two questions:

1. Where did everyone install the GPS antenna? The shop installed mine on top of the dash above the glove box. I particullarly don't like it there as it stands out way too much and wanted to find out if anyone installed it in a better location.

2. My steering wheel controls don't work, however I also have a AV device hooked up to this unit. Should they be able to install it so that my steering wheel controls work?

If you have the AVN5435 then yes they should have hooked up your steering wheel controls.. The factory connector plugs right into the Eclipse unit with no mods..
 
Does the eclipse sirius unit come with an antenna, or does that need to be purchased separately?

Davis23, where did you install your sirius antenna? The place I went to installed it inside the car on the dash all the way to the right. The radio will cut out if I'm in area trees along the roadside and for a second when going under bridges. Do I need to have it installed on the outside, or is my experience somewhat normal?

I installed my antenna outside right above the rear door on the roof. I think what you're experiencing is normal because mine will cut out when going under bridges or when there are tall trees. The antenna needs a clear view of the sky for it to work, unless the area you're in has terrestrial repeaters (like cell towers).

My eclipse AVN5495 is on the way. I have the JBL system. I may buy the outside panel trim and the ac unit trim piece for the standard radio to make everything look stock. i know partznet.com has the outside panel trim, but i couldn't find the ac unit trim piece. does anyone know the part number or where to buy this and how much? thanks

i was just on eclipses website, and i was looking into the AVN5435 and it says... (copy and pasted)

CD, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, MP3 and DVD-Video
* Viewing DVD is only possible when vehicle is not in motion.

is this true about viewing a DVD? do any of you know if there is an override to this? (for example grounding the parking break wire, if there is a parking break wire on the radio)? or is it enforced by GPS so that you cannot override the "dvd when parked only" feature?

i know that with the CVA1005 (older alpine head unit) you just needed to ground the parking break wire and it "thought" you were in park all the time, and could use the video inputs. my friend told me no to get the pioneer head unit though (or maybe it was kenwood, i forget) because you could not override this safety. he says it uses the built in GPS to tell if you are moving or not, and it doesnt use the "wire".

anybody know if theres a way around it?

All you do is ground the parking brake wire..
 
one more question.

will the eclipse in question play dvd+r/rw and dvd-r/rw discs?

can anybody who owns this unit confirm that it will play a "burned" disc?
 
I am looking at getting one of these all-in-one double din NAV/AM-FM/CD/DVD/SAT/IPOD Head units and I am curious as to what companies make them, and how good they are. I will be purchasing one of these in the next few months so I want to get my research started now. I also plan on adding iPod and reverse camera options to the system.

I already know of these models:

Pioneer AVIC-D1 - I don't like it because it doesn't play DVD's

Eclipse AVN5495 - I really liked this one until I realized that the only way to load your music onto the HDD is to record it in real time!! :mad:

Eclipse AVN5435 - looks promising

Eclipse AVN5500 - just a new version of the 5435? Anyone know the difference between this and the 5435

Clarion MAX675VD - Hasn't even hit the market yet, but I bet it will be expensive.

Anyone know of any other major brands that make HU's similar to these? Thanks.
 
I just bought the AVN5435 knowing that it is no longer the best double-DIN unit out there.

But with Crutchfield selling it @ $1400 no tax no shipping I feel it is easily the best deal out there right now.

Some things I think may be the AVN5435's weak points:

1.) IPOD integration - It would have been nice and cool if it could have charged and controlled my IPOD. But it would have been even nicer if it were to control and play the video on my IPOD. This probably won't come out for another generation. In the meantime, I don't have any issues with using the Video-in of the player.

2.) Cannot play DVD and navigate at the same time. Would have been nice, but the only time I plan on having DVD's playing is when I'm on a long trip. Not a deal breaker for me. If I wanted I could load up my IPOD.

Besides that it should be a good purchase for me.
