Whats your driving style ?

Aggressive for the most part when in the 4Runner or some other truck, especially if somebody does something stupid, but sometimes I just can't be bothered, though.

People who drive around with high beams or HID's from Autozone get ALL my lights at the very last second, and swerved at.

Someone doing 20 in a 55mph zone also gets the lights.

People are shocked how often I used my horn and how I don't hesitate to yell out the window.

People who tailgate me (although I already am going decent unless someone's up front), get played with; going slow then coming to a stop. Try to pass me and I mash that pedal, wishing I had the Tundra motor more often than not.

People who cut in front of me when they see me coming, and make me BRAKE get my lights as well. I'd be a liar if I said I never passed the person and went as slow as possible, as well.

I don't do any of this in the corvette, though.

I sometimes do this kinda stuff if i get really pissed, but it gets old hat real quick, i just want to get on with my ride then deal with some ******* who cut me off, although i generally leave them a nice cloud of unburned diesel as i cut them back off.

I have had people speed up a lot as i attempt to legally pass them on a 1 lane each way road, luckily i go into 3rd for overtaking and i have so much speed built up that them flooring it doesn't do ****. I don't ever speed up as people try to pass, if there is oncoming traffic, i don't want to be responsible for them killing both sets of people in the cars.

I just want to be in front of you, that is all, nothing more.

i use to do that on my bike, and dumb ricers always gotta speed up and not let me pass, but i think they never went to school and learned power to weight ratio lol

It's illegal to not let someone pass you legally. At least it is here in NJ. I get a kick out of someone trying to not let me pass. Especially since I always pass them anyway and then they try to keep up when I get in front of them.

4Runner's are slow, and will always be slow. As such, I drive the old 4Runner pretty easy. I don't attempt too many passes, I generally just relax and enjoy the ride.

Now if I'm driving my car, or especially on my Motorcycle, passing dawdling drivers safely, is not an issue.

That being said, it's been a long time since I was a teen that thought I knew it all. So I don't drive around looking to teach people a lesson in driving.

As one matures, you realize that there are drivers out there with a wide range of skills and ability. Most of which have as much right as anyone else to be out there. So you learn to make allowances for less-than-stellar driving, of both the slow and inattentive, and the fast and reckless variety.

Speed is relative.

I've driven a 4th gen 4runner with a Supercharger installed on the 4.7 V8. It also had stronger con rods installed, and a few other upgrades to better handle the increased power. Compared to street-legal vehicles that could be considered fast, it was slow.

I'm not comparing it to any super cars. I'm just saying, it's a pretty fast truck. And that's comparing it to other average cars on the road. And I'm talking about stock. This thread isn't called "What's your driving style in your souped up hot rod?"

I'm sorry that you apparently took offense to my having the audacity to call all 4Runner's slow, and implied I didn't know what fast was. I can assure you I do have some idea of what a fast vehicle is.

In the grand scheme of street-legal vehicles, they are slow. That's okay, they were never designed to be high-performance machines in terms of speed or handling. And in that light there's not much point, IMO, in trying to drive them fast.

So my 'driving style' when driving my slow 4Runner, (which I happen to like for what it is, despite it being slow) is to just take it easy.

I didn't take offense at all. I was just saying, it's not really fair to consider a 4Runner a slow vehicle. You're right, it wasn't designed to be a fast vehicle. It is a 5000lb (give or take) body-on-frame SUV. And for what it is, it's pretty fast. Considering it's faster than many other cars on the road. I have raced and beat a few cars, such as a 2010 Kia Forte (with the upgraded engine, 2.4 L), a newer Honda Accord V6, and I kept up with a Hemi Dodge Charger. All I'm saying is that for what they are, at least the 4th and 5th gen 4Runners, are pretty fast. I think I read something that the 4Runner was the second fastest in it's class, falling less than a second short of the Hemi Jeep GC for 0-60.

The 4runner is pretty quick, it not nothing amazing, but it has no problem getting around anything if you know how to downshift. Ive driven a number of cars in the high end sports car category and they are fast, but unless they are DD'd the 4runner can't really be seen as a "slow car", but i am not even sure how you brought those kind of cars in and compared them.

Slow means something that you are worried about getting into an accident when merging, or not quick enough to get out of its own way.

Okay. one last time.

Speed is relative. It's also a matter of perspective, based on one's own personal experience. What is fast or slow to one person, might not be to another.

I should have said in my first post, that in my opinion, all 4Runners are slow. This is my own opinion, formed from having driven every model of 4Runner, from their inception through to the current model. The fact that it's not fast, IMO, is not a knock against the 4Runner. It is very good at what it was/is designed to be.

It was this opinion that was the basis for why I drive my 4Runner easy. In my view it will never be fast, so there's no point in flogging it to try and make it go fast. I didn't buy it for speed.

If someone wants to consider a 4Runner fast, more power to them.

This thread went down hill quickly.. No, you cant compare 4Runners to Shelby GT's, BMW's, AMG's, Porsche's, and all other ''Street Legal'' truly fast cars. Even if comparing to TL's and 5.0 Stangs, or Camaro's, Infinity's, etc.

But.. The 4Runner IS fast for what it is! Would it be better to call it quick? Maybe the sarcastic tones and ''I'm sorry if I offended you's'' would cease if we called them ''quick'' rather than fast?

I've been reading this forum long enough to spot people say stuff they know will upset people and then act like ''Whhha? You're upset?''

Just sayin.. Maybe I'm off base in this instance however..

But you're right, I probably should have worded my first post differently.

At any rate, the speed capability of 4Runner's, wasn't the main point of my original post, anyway.

The main point I had, was commenting on the members that feel they have to teach other drivers a lesson by tailgating, cutting them off, flashing their lights, etc.

Reacting to poor driving, with more poor driving, doesn't help anyone.

I had a '99 CBR1100XX for three years, and 30,000 miles. A nice bike, but not the quickest or fastest. The only thing I really disliked, was the ill conceived linked-brake system.
