I don't care how irresponsible it is, I went 300 mph on a city street in between stop lights in a school zone racing another lifted, over sized tires, 3.4 runner.

What tires do you have specifically? I'd be willing to bet you have some E-rated LT tires, and are confusing the load index rating, with a speed rating.

Beyond that, a 3rd gen 4Runner has to be in near stock configuration (no grossly heavier and oversized tires, roof racks, or other extraneous add-ons that add weight and hurt aerodynamics) and in good running order, and under near ideal conditions, to even reach the 106 mph limiter. That is the governed speed according to Toyota's own specs. Higher readings seen on the speedometer are just speedometer error.

At altitude in Colorado, (you lose 3% of the engines power for every 1000 ft gain in elevation) it doesn't make enough power to hit the limiter anyway.

I am stock, because I didn't want to sacrifice on road efficiency, and I hit the limiter. I just double checked and my tires are rated for 118mph. How do I go about disabling the limiter in a 3rd gen? Thanks!

My '97 used to shake at 65mph, changed the LBJ's, outer tie rod ends and new struts. Now it'll run one finger smooth up to 90mph. It's an suv so I'm not particularly concerned about going much faster than that.

Now with 285/75/16 I can't get over 95.
In my moms lexus rx 330 I've done 110 and my dads Xterra on 285/75/16s I've hit 115. Neither of those are maxed out.

To you and all others who are running taller tires and are reporting decrease in top speeds, are you taking readings from the speedometer, computer, or gps?

Without having the speedometer recalibrated or properly regearing, the speedometer/computer will read slower than actual speed.

Yup. The 286/75/16 speed was using a gps and my phone speedometer both my dads x and my runner. In my runner Both said 95. My speedo said about 97 98. I don't remember my dad's speedo.

I know a fellow who runs triple digits on his speedo often....stock 99 4runner limited ( 338,000 on the speedo)!

But his mpg sucks ..... Like 13mpg! I always catch up to him as he has to fill up ! hahahahaha....

On the 2.7 Land cruiser: exactly 102.5mph (164kmh)

On the 4th gen: 122.5 (196kmh)

Both taken on the GPS.

Both done to test how far they can get before it gets scary. FWIW, the 4th gen is completely stock and the LC has a few mods but the engine is completely stock.

Just found this old video.

It was taken over 100 000 km ago, and to be fair, there was a dip in the road at about 150 km/h, which is why it seems to pull all the way. My driveway always came up too fast so I never quite reached 160 km/h, or 100 mph.

Now I live in an area that impounds your car and fines the heck out of you for 40 km/h (25 mph) over the speed limit. :-O

yeah....i try not to go past 80. These things are not the greatest at speed and I like my life. Plus past about 73mph my mileage drops drastically and i like saving money.

Now that I'm lifted the fastest I've gone is 90mph, coming home from Tahoe.
Feels stable and secure.
If I feel the need for speed i hop in the ol zedx and hit 160mph no problem [emoji41]

For me it was 90mph before the lift and 75mph after. I just don't feel like going fast in my truck.
