Wheels & Tires advice needed

Pulled the trigger on buying new wheels and tires for the 4runner. Ended up going with Ultra gauntlet 18x9 -12offset with Duratracs 275/70/18 (33.4"). They are supposed to be here within in the next week or two. My question is: Will this setup work on a stock height 4runner? I have searched here quite a bit but haven't seen this combo run with 18". I have seen it with 17x9 -12 offset w/duratracs 285/70/17 (33.1") and know that it will rub just prior to full lock, requiring bcm. Just wondering if I should lift prior to install or if I can run this setup on a stock 4runner. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Just a heads up to anyone that decides to go this route, you will end up rubbing when doing any turns that isn't on the street or highway, aka parking lots, garages, etc. Just following the DIY on how to pull the front fender lines forward along with removing the piece of plastic covering the bodying mount points, and you are good to go. No rubbing at stock height.
 
Do you have any photo's of the setup? I am looking at going a similar route also. I want to keep the X-Reas on my LE so I am not looking to do a major lift but do want to lose the skinnies that are on there now. I am thinking I could go with a 285/70/17 with a daystar 2.5 front and 1" rear to keep the cost down.
 
I'll toss up some pictures tomorrow. 285's are going to cause some pretty good rubbing without a lift. Any reason you are choosing daystar's over toytec?

Well, those are both on the short list. The local shop here sells the DS. Haven't found a TT shop around here yet. I know TT is a quality product though and I think one of the guys from TT posts up here on occasion so support is there.

Also, does the -12 offset line the outside of the tires up with the fender well or do they stick out a little? I am also trying to decide on Gauntlets or the FN Konig.

I'll have to check out the Yoko's in the 285 /60's too. I'm not going to be doing any heavy offroading, just the beach, occasional snow and mud. I just can't get rid of the stock skinnies fast enough though. It just doesn't look right on a 4wd vehicle.
 
The negative 12mm offset makes it about flush.

I went 275 and only had minor adjustments to get to full lock to lock

Man, that looks good. :thumb: After seeing the pics I may have changed my mind to go with that setup. I think I read that you ended up going with the 275/70/18 x9's. So a little rubbing with no lift or spacers and just a minor fender liner trim required? Did you black out the door handles and the lower chrome as well? If so, what did you use? I have been plasti dipping the chrome on mine but still have a ways to go. I have a MGM LE and was thinking the gunmetal konig's would probably look best but I like those black gauntlets.

I actually got rid of all of the rubbing tonight using my dremel real quick. All I had to do is take off the piece of plastic that is covering the body mount and the trim the rocker panel (30 degree cut on the panel on the inside of the wheel well, I'll take pictures tomorrow). Finished in 10 mins and gave me my full turn radius back, just have to be comfortable cutting painted plastic. The door handles are black using plasti dip, my first attempt. The lower chrome is just out of focus, it is still there. Haven't decided whether or not I want to black it out since I still have the chrome roof rack. The black gauntlets turned out really nice and especially with the 33" tire.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking if your going with an 18" wheel then you should probably be fine if you went with a tire size of 275/65/18 with the stock suspension.
I'm thinking of going this route with my truck next Spring.

By the way PopsSmith your truck looks great !!!!
 
You shouldn't have any problems with rubbing since the outter diameter is 32", same size as stock wheels and tires.

I am also interested in this exact same topic, and have been searching the forums for a while trying to find someone discussing the setup I'm interested in.

I am thinking about going with the Fuel Krank 18x9 wheels with 4.5" bs -12 os, and the Nitto Terra Grappler 285/60/18 tires. Will these have a rubbing problem on a stock Limited?
 
I went with the Ultra Gauntlet's too, but, in 20's with Nitto's...something to consider :bigok:

And yes, slight rubbing only going in reverse at full lock. Just removed the little piece of plastic behind the front wheels and pulled the front fender forward like an inch. No lift. Genius.

Turns out the Silver Krank's can't be found anywhere...

I am also looking at the Ultra Gauntlets like you have, just in chrome and a 18x9, -12 offset. Is this the same offset as your 20x9 Gauntlets? How much do your tires stick out from the fender well?
 
With the backspacing and a -12 offset the wheels/tires are about flush with the body panels. I have never seen the gauntlets in chrome. That will probably have to be a custom job.
 
So I just found a nice wheel that I think would look good on the Blizzard Pearl 4Runner. It's an Ultra Maverick in a 18x9, 6x5.5 bolt pattern, 106.1 bore. The problem is that they only offer it in a -6 offset, which would be about 4.75" in backspace. Will this still work? Would it change the rubbing with 285/60/18's? I was thinking the 285/60s wouldn't rub because they are the same heigh as the factory 245's.
