When you are off roading. And get hungry. What do you have ? Grill? Stove or combo ?

I recently purchased a Weber go anywhere grill.

I've moved almost exclusively to using a JetBoil. Sure the Mountain House and Backpacker's Pantry meals are pretty good. Things get tasty when you have vacuum sealed some smoked meat, boil the pouch in the Jetboil, and you've got chicken carnitas ready in three minutes.

2 burning stove is the yummy way to go for me. Got a 3lb propane tank years ago for car camping. I enjoy cooking. And I love being outside. So why not really enjoy cooking outside. If I am out for just a day, then I usually pack a lunch. But my kitchen is almost always in the truck and ready to go. The first image is cooking off the swing out tail gate table. The second image is cooking off a campsite table.

I take a MSR Dragonfly for cooking, and when I go out west due to fire bans for grilling I use a Ducane "Take it or leave it" gas grill. Oh yeah its worth the weight!

I just picked up a combo. I don't like just a stove because I lose the ability to grill which is important.

We pretty much only use a cast iron pan and dutch oven for truck camping. Build up a good base of coals and toss in the ingredients.

A cast iron is a must. Cheap, lasts forever, tons of options and easy to clean.

Campfire, always. Foil packs and mountain pies, and a grill grate for eggs and bacon

Around here that's not always an option when there's a burn ban in effect. A couple summers ago we even had a ban out on the coast. Which considering it's surrounded by a rain forest, is pretty impressive.

Yeah I saw this at Walmart. Have you been able to use it ??

Thats the same stove we have been using since the states. We use it 2.5 times per day for breakfast, coffee, lunch and or dinner. We have been on a 20# bottle with an attachment I picked up at Home Depot; its been 6 months and I still have yet to run the bottle out. I would 100% recommend buying this if at all possible.

As an aside, it's a good idea to consider where you'll be going camping at and what the fire regulations are (they vary month to month depending on weather conditions) before making a decision.

For example, this is what Big Bend allows:

Are campfires allowed?
Ground fires and wood fires are prohibited throughout Big Bend National Park. Charcoal is allowed in grills in campgrounds. You may have a fire in a fire pan while on a river trip, or use a containerized fuel stove for backpacking
.

I have a Coleman 2 burner stove that I've had for years! It's my go to for food cooking.

Catch and cook.

LOL....I'm going to have to dig out one of our Coleman Propanes......rest assured it looks nothing like yours. I do love he pic you posted....but it is fish not Elk steak....LOL. We use the heck out of them...feeding up to 10 people per meal....best dang stoves we ever had. Went from the white gas model to the propane....WOW....what a huge difference and for the better.
