When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

6112's on 4th groove and 1.5 rear spacer

Anyone have their truck setup on the 3rd clip (2") and 2" icon springs in the rear? I'd love to see some pictures.

Also, anyone experience any settling with the 2" springs? I'm debating between 1.5 spacer or 2" springs. I have both sitting at my house...just need to decide.

Cheers!

Not 2 inch springs but Bilstein 6112 set at 3 clip with AirLift 1000 set at 5psi. With this set up you can adjust your load according to needs. Rides great. Wont be stiff when you're not loaded down. Just another option

Yup! Love his setup. Just looking for another reference or two before I pull the trigger.

Thanks!

Skip out on the spacers. The springs will sag at some point & force a change of springs anyways. I really like the Icon coils & went with Fox shocks.

I'm finally feeling dialed in with my 6112/5160 setup on my '15 TEP. All my parts came in at separate times and I installed them as they came in.

In First, the 6112's on the second clip. I went from 34" both sides to 35.5" and it eventually settled a bit to about 35.25". BTW- the truck's ass end felt really squishy and un-balanced without the 5160's installed. I was not initially impressed with the 6112 and factory rear shock/spring.

The ride height change was barely noticeable and I wasn't really feeling how the ass end sagged with any kind of weight.

Next, Cooper AT3 255/75/17's and debated between 1" or 1.5" spacer or 2" spring.

Next, installed the 5160's. What a difference in ride quality. Finally a balanced suspension. As documented, a minimal to no change in ride height.

After setting it up on the lift and figuring out how often I'll be driving with my trunk loaded (trailer hitch bike rack and bike, dog, work gear, fishing gear, etc) I decided to go for the springs. Much thanks to CSix and letzrace for their recommendations. I was pretty set on the 3rd clip in the front gaining only 2", but I was nervous to go with such a forward rake. That said I really wanted to see how the springs could improve the ride over factory and spacers.

So, springs installed and 6112's changed to 3rd clip...

After about a week riding around with a loaded down trunk, the springs have settled some and I'm now at 36" front and about 38 1/2" in the rear. The ride quality with springs is great and I'm very happy going that route.

If you are looking for a more leveled look and wanting to stay under 3", I would recommend the 4th clip in the front and the 2" springs. I may do this in the future, but I need to research a bit more on how that will affect the KDSS. I'm hearing multiple opinions on that.

Sorry for the ramble. Cheers!

PS...thanks for all the tutorials, setup recommendations and suggestions on here. I basically incorporated all of them in some form or fashion.

5160s Failed after 5 days on the road

5160s Failed after 5 days on the road :

Sorry guys first time poster here on this lively community of enthusiasts. I'm a Canadian living in Dubai (don't rush to judge please) and I have a 2015 TE.

I was encouraged by what I've read here about the Bilstein shocks/ lift and I wanted to give my rig a better stance, so I ordered the 6112's (DON'T ASK ABOUT THE SHIPPING COST) and 5160s.

Got the front really quick and I installed them right away and was very happy with the setup but waiting to lift the rear as well, as I wanted to lift the whole vehicle about 2".

The rears were, ordered from Total Automotive, arrived and they were in better packaging than the fronts which was a good sign, installed professionally here in Dubai with stock springs as I did not land on lift option yet. Sway away 1.5 was my choice but the shipping cost was double the price of the springs.

cut the story short, vehicle was level fronts set to 3rd notch, Mrs taking the kids to schools every day and .......5 or 6 days later the rears are busted as in no damping effect what so ever and the rear end was allover the road with my wife and kids in it

I noticed traces of oil on the garage floor and realized the rear suspension was covered with oil. The shocks lost the gas and most of the oil in those few days which was hard to believe given Bistein reliability and warranty. went today and took them off and put the stock shocks back in so we can use the truck. I noticed that most of the oil was coming out of the hose connection on the shock body and later realized that it was not tightened the guys who did the install never touched it and the installation instructions never mentioned anything about checking them or tightening them as part of the install procedure did anyone experience this (I very much doubt it) this is suppose to be torqued to spec in the factory to avoid damaging the seals unless it was produced early Monday or late Friday???

I sent an email to Total Automotive with a lot of pictures and waiting for their reply I hope they will come through with the replacement the only wrinkle is that I cannot ship the leaky shocks back to the vendor no courier service will accept them not when shipping internationally.

Guys check the shocks before you install them I don't this to happen to anyone, quite frustrating. I paid $150 to ship the rears alone and I'm not willing to ship them back for another $150

Total Automotive over to you guys please help

so let me get this right... you bought shocks, installed them and drove on them and you think the vendor should replace them? I think you might want to contact Bilstein directly.

Bilstein May send him back to the vendor for warranty purposes. However I would most definitely contact them directly.
only if they are trying to dodge the warranty. the warranty is a manufacturer warranty. If the product wasnt defective at delivery the vendor is off the hook.

We never like to hear of issues like this! While we rarely have failures, they do happen with every brand. Choosing a quality brand that stands behind the product is a must, and in our experience Bilstein is a-okay.

We are here to help - with issues like this the first course of action is to contact the manufacturer.

We work with the west coast outfit, here is their contact info.

If bilstein needs more info or if we can be of any assistance, let us know!

Having been a vendor, I will simply refer to what the selling vendor in this case just posted, reference the center section.
"When a shock has been determined defective, or if more sophisticated testing seems necessary, return the shock to the original place of purchase for warranty evaluation"

Wasn't talking out my ass, just preparing the person for a potential order of events.

Contacted the warranty dept, person respond so far does not give me a happy fuzzy feeling that they will help. After I sent pictures of the install which does not tell the whole story (2d picture vs human eye)

See below

The hose fitting appears to be contacting the chassis during the cycling of the suspension. Can you look for witness marks on the frame for evidence of contact? We also noticed the upper washer was installed upside down per the instructions and the bushing appears to be over-torqued. Thank you.

While the fitting does not and has not touched the frame since they are positioned inside the gap between the frame and frame plate, I was with the installer and he/ we followed the included instructions to the T. Everything was done correctly. But even is the bushing is installed upside down, for sake of argument, that does not cause the shocks to leak and spill its guts out. Does it?

I too have been a vendor although not on T4r or for Billstein :biggrin2: good pic....

TotalAutomotive

If the hose connection is loose, which is the case on the shocks, and caused the gas/oil leak isn't that a manufacturer defect??? The instructions do not include checking or tightening the hose connections. I would assume this should be torqued at the factory to avoid damaging the seal(s) correct?

Can you assist by contacting your supplier to see if they can help?

Any data out there on the amount of oil that goes into shock/ reservoir and gas pressure?
