When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

Trying to flex with the new Bilsteins
I know I was advised that these don't need extended bump stops and some claimed they had gone through their 5160 and recommend using extended bs to prolong the life of the shocks. From the look of the 2nd pix, does it look too compress w/out the extended bump stops?

I can't see how you could damage them as long as you didn't remove the bump stops.

These have more travel from what I have been told, but as long as your bump stops are still intact and you didn't over compress your OEM shocks & don't have some long travel suspension setup, how could you over compress your 5160's?

Maybe I am looking at this wrong...can someone else chime in and tell us if I am in error....?

Saker - I think you are right because the stock TRD Pro has 5160s, stock springs and bumpstops. We wont over compress. You have the third setting and stock springs and looks to level nicely.

I just received my Bilstein Billet Brackets, 6112's will be here tomorrow and 5160's with Icon/Eibach 2" springs on Monday. (Woo Hoo) I'll be going for a 2" all the way around. That should keep the stock rake but up 2".
HerT4R - I could not see your pics :-( but this seems to be the closest to stock TRD Pro's stance: 6112s on second groove is, over an inch, 5160s in rear with stock springs.

@ Magnetic - you have a 2.5" on the 4th Setting with 1.5 SAWs? Like the pics.

How you all like overall? Off road?

Since the rear is lifted, there's more room for compression vs when it's at stock height. And when it's flexing, the extended bump stop would help minimizing the body leaning(?) Maybe I'm overthinking this or not fully understanding how my suspension work off road.

Yes, currently it's at the 4th setting with 2.5 lift and rear SAW 1.5.
Overall, it's a lot nicer ride off road compare to Xreas. It may have felt better if I had aired down. (I need to get an on board air system) I do need to practice going slower and controlling my brakes better.. Not used to it yet offroad., especially over big bumps. Haha.

Love to see 4RunHer's photos..

My Trail his due to hit the Port on NY (Newark?) on Tuesday, and my dealer about a week later, so I'm getting close. After much thought and teeth gnashing, I'm going for the second groove on the 6112's also, with the 5160's out back, and Falken WildPeaks on FN f(x) Pro's. I don't want to even get close to having caster problems. I have no problem with aftermarket UCA's, but I want a quality ball joint, OEM or better. I like the uniballs, but having dealt with suspension squeaks in the past, I refuse to go there!

Getting itchy to get started..

Those of you that have the 5160 reservoir mounted this way have you noticed any rusting on the bottom of he reservoir? I noticed that the bottom end is starting to rust slightly. The bottom is recessed slightly so it retains water. Its probably not a big deal, but I may see about flipping the reservoir.

Hmmmm.....
I wonder if Bilstein has a remedy for this.....

They should have included a Flexible Short Cap since it's is positioned with the recess on top.
Something like this in black in 50mm!

Just sayin'

you don't have to mount it upside down.

those rubber caps... Thats a good idea. I was gonna just spray the bottom with some cold galv spray.

Im surprised that they have started to rust already. The bodies are Zinc coated and it shouldn't be rusting already.

I think Zinga makes one of the highest zinc contest cold spray. May try some of that if i can find it in black while I'm touching up the rusted weld spots on my chassis.

After looking at the photo, it occurs to me that the oxidized material may, or may not be from the reservoir. I see some light corrosion on the chassis rails. Rain water thrown or dripping down as rusty water coulod collect, and when evaporated off, leave the residue of oxidation from somewhere else.

I thought these shocks were pretty well protected being galvanized and clear coated. In any case, Saker has a great idea, even if one has to do a wrap or two of electrical tape to make the cap snug. The cap would cover the wrap. and no one is the wiser!

They say to use an undersized cap anyway ...

50mm =1.968 ... might try 1.875

Not sure why they would put a recess in the ends like that. The ends on the Pro reservoirs are domed.

I wouldn't bother putting those caps on the 5160s. The rest of it will look like shit soon enough.

okay i think i got it sorted...

Saker, CSix, BlacknTan, Magnetic4R and everyone else, I think it had something to do with the settings on the album (thanks for pointing that out TotalAutomotiveLV). should be working now...

made for a very capable setup, see it below in action at the toyota lone star jamboree:

let me know if this doesn't work. i will troubleshoot again if need be :frusty:, but hoping it works this time... Sorry for the delay, just got back from the jambo yesterday!

HerT4R,

Yep you got it fixed!
Your T4R looks good at the jambo.... got that flex going on! :D

Looks great 4RunHer!!

How much lift you figure you got in the front?

didnt measure, but just by feel it is taller in front. if i had to guess i got an inch or so of lift. sorry for the lack of thorough measurements. Honestly, to me it looks great, feels great, and removed a slight amount of stock rake. I like it.

I did the 2nd groove on the 6112s because I believe the 3rd groove makes it pretty darn close to, if not, fully level with the 5160s and rear springs (see Saker 's midnight) and i didnt want it level and i didnt want to change the rear springs yet.

Hope that helps you out! Sorry for the lack of scientific data!

I went ahead and did my install on Saturday. I set the 6112's on the 3rd slot. It turned out great. I think I will add a small spacer in the rear as its pretty level now, and maybe a bit nose high. Cheaper and easier to move the rear up a smidgen than the front down.

I really like the ride and it softens out some of the bumps on the airport road. Did some highway driving as well on Sunday and it felt great.

It feels very similar to my FJ TTUE did, as the suspension is pretty close.

Very happy with the results and the service I got from Total Automotive as well. We had a little hiccup on shipping but they got it sorted out and taken care of.

Phil
