When will the Bilstein 6112 be released?

This is the results on my 6112/5160 install. Thanks to all of you for the help. It does sit quite a bit higher in the rear than what I was expecting and I hope it does go down a bit.

-6112 at the middle setting (3rd notch)
-wheelers t12 rear spring
-Airlift 1000 with 5psi
-Bumpstop has one extra segment that was not removed.
-3rd row seats and sliders are the only weight adders

With the taller spring I was thinking with the airlift bag being designed for a stock height spring it would make sense to compensate by leaving an extra segment of the stock bumpstop.

At 5psi the airbag doesn't push much on the bumpstop so I don't think it's causing the extra height but maybe I'm wrong.

Bilstein 6112 shocks/coils for 4th Gen 4runner 47-260153

I bought a pair of the newly redesigned 6112 Bilsteins for my GX470 but have decided to spend the extra dough on Icon. They are on the UPS truck now and will be delivered today so they are brand new. I put them in the classifieds for $600. Total Automotive is $655 with T4R discount. Save $55.

These are the new ones for 4th gen 4Runners part # 47-260153 with 7 circlip settings and 600#coils. They also fit the GX470. They are hard to get and have just been released. Get them for less than I paid. My loss is your gain on these great shocks. Located in San Pedro, CA.

is anyone running heavier and maybe longer springs on the 6112?

IIRC the Eibach springs are 600# but unsure of the length, I am looking to run a king 14" 650lb spring on my 6112s because the springs it came with are not cutting it with an additional SSS bumper and winch, approx 150 extra lbs up front....

i am on 4th circlip and would rather beef the springs than go to the tallest perch and not get the desired raise.

Also with the king spring i would probably set the circlip back down at the first groove right? (i have the original 6112s not this fancy new 7 groove design)

Trying to figure out how a new spring would play out with the circlip setting and the increased weight rating. Please assist if possible.

:hippie:

One of my 6112's is leaking, possibly one of the first ones to exhibit leakage....

I have contacted TAP and they are in contact with Bilstein to find out how we are to proceed since these are sold in pairs.
I hope Bilstein steps up to the plate and I am able to purchase 1, send the leaking one back and receive credit for the one purchased.

IMHO, that is what Bilstein should do, they should have replacements just for this reason, to support their customer base when things like this arise.

I have been in contact with Mike and Richard at Total Automotive Performance TotalAutomotiveLV. They have contacted Bilstein in my behalf and have forwarded the following photos to Bilstein.

Now I need Bilstein to do the right thing. My T4R is a daily driver and I cannot afford to have it down while a shock is evaluated for warranty.

Photos in Order:
1. 6112 - Drivers Side Front View
2. 6112 - Drivers Side Rear View
3. 6112 - Passengers Side Front View with no leakage

. : : Update . : :

As stated above, I made my original purchase from TotalAutomotiveLV.

So, since my T4R is a daily driver and couldn't be down while Bilstein evaluated and warrantied the 6112's, here is how the process went.

Richard @ TAP suggested a process to make the situation flow smoothly.
I ordered a replacement set of 6112's (currently one cannot purchase 1 individual replacement shock. Bilstein needs to address this process IMHO!)
Had them installed.
Sent the original set of 6112's back to Bilstein complete (with coils, both shocks and spring perches).
After only a couple of weeks, they were evaluated and credit has been issued for my replacement 6112's.

I have to say, thanks to Richard, Mike & all the people that were involved at TotalAutomotiveLV for making this warranty of my 6112's go smoothly.

They are really good people at TAP that care about their customers and will try to help whenever possible when something like this comes up, not to mention they beat everyone's pricing!

:D

Absolutely! How can we NOT buy one single shock?? To have to go through what you went through is retarded! Being down is bad enough without having to come up with all the cash to buy new shocks and hope to get refunded later. And why would we need new coils as well?? Since they are not rebuildable, they need to make individual shocks available so people can get back on the road in an affordable, efficient way when something goes wrong.

I agree, but since that is currently the situation Bilstein has put us in, they need to refine their availability to 1 said shock.

Believe me when I tell you, TAP worked with me on this and this was the only way we could do the process.
I covered all those bases with TAP, they tried, but could not obtain 1 single shock from Bilstein.

I know you didn't single TAP out, but just letting everyone know, I could not have received any better service from anyone else in the same given situation.

I know you didn't single TAP out.

Not at all. Sounds like they helped you through a difficult situation.

If warranty must be sent back to Bilstein, then that is a huge issue on a daily driver. You need to be able to buy one shock. Period.

If you are down on a daily driver, waiting over a week or more while a shock goes back, gets evaluated and is shipped back to be installed is not acceptable. What do you do? Rent a car? And if you are not wrenching yourself, the shop can't leave your truck on the hoist waiting. And since they MUST be sent back as a pair, you would have zero shocks on your truck. Find a single temp shock is not even an option. What a PITA.

Also, if you are not wrenching yourself, that's big $$$ to remove/replace two struts instead of one. Not to mention that you must finance the cost of buying another pair of shocks AND COILS plus pay shipping while waiting for Bilstein to decide on warranty and figure out how to reimburse you? I mean what is their plan? Do they send you another set, and then you have to resell them to get some money back?? People have enough trouble paying their bills without having to finance a whole new set during warranty.

We all know that shocks fail. All MFG's have their issues. It's how they support their customers that matters most. This sounds like a horrible business model.

The part that is the worst is not being able to purchase 1 shock, pay for that replacement, then have to only send 1 shock back.... instead of a whole set.

As far as the way Bilstein has to do the warranty part, I imagine a lot of businesses out there would follow a likewise process.

Agreed. But only shock, not the coil.

Not sure how that works with other MFG's? You buy a replacement shock at retail and the Bilstein sends you a check? Or you work through your dealer and the dealer refunds you once they get paid from Bilstein?

I would happily pay for the one shock body up front to have my truck back on the road, especially if it's on a hoist far from home assuming one can be found or shipped in quickly. Then send the old one in and have it replaced to keep as a spare or sell it. But a whole pair complete with coils? That's ridiculous and needless labor to R/R even if you do it yourself.

I am currently worked if with Bilstein directly to replace two 5160's for leaking reservoirs on my daily driver... has taken a couple of months for dialogue and to discuss the situation/options which we are still working on...

So Saker, Did you get the newest version and if so. What settings did you use this time?

Well I have a brand new pair I planned to put on my truck, but now have them up for sale and plan to get icons. If I knew I could get a single shock without a coil if/when things go bad, I might try them out. I have had several Bilstein shocks go bad, but have always been able to take them to a motorcycle shop or some place like that locally and get them rebuilt. That is not an option here, especially when they are bundled with coils. I hope Bilstein changes their business model where it pertains to these shocks.

Couldn't one of our customer-centric suppliers buy a pair of 6112s and then split them for sale individually? Hint, Hint :-)

My understanding is that the 7 groove design is pretty much the only change and it has no impact on total lift available. IOW, instead of four grooves spaced 1/2" apart, they spaced them 1/4" apart (filled in the three gaps between the 1/2" grooves). The issue was that 1/2" was too much of a lift to trim out driver's side lean and people were still needing to use a 1/4" spacer. Now people can just drop the DS one notch (1/4") lower than the PS and avoid having to use a spacer on top. If you did that with the old 1/2" notches you'd end up with lean to the PS.

I worked thru my dealer.
