I vote LC, just because you already have a 4Runner

The LC is bigger inside in the first 2 rows. It has a usable 3rd row for adults, not very comfy but usable for short trips. The cargo area is a lot bigger than the 4Runner.

The problem is that the used LC will probably end up costing you 10k more than the new 4Runner. If the price you have to pay in total is in the same ballpark it will defintely be a difficult choice. But it doesn't sound like you will use what the LC has to offer so why spend the extra $$$??

Another vote for the new 4Runner.

Unless the prior owner is your best friend and you knew he was absolutley anal about caring for his LC, I would not chance it. Buying a used car is often times buying someone else's problems. The prior owner may have thrashed it without showing any signs until later when the engine and driveline is tired.

Your new 4Runner uses the upgraded LC engine, very similar levels of design and safety features. So why settle for a used LC.

While I would love a LC, it needs some serious upgrades suc has engine power and those damned third row seats to get me to sign on for $60K.

As much as I love the 4R, I wouldn't get a 2nd one (maybe a GX though ). My vote is for the LC. BTW, have you considered a used 4th gen 4R to complement the one you already have? Just a thought.

Just to throw a screwball out...if you want something to carry stuff and has off-road capability, then how about the Dodge PowerWagon??! Now, that thing is a monster off-road...if it fits. Hell, i don't see why people bother with the Hummer H2...i would take the PowerWagon over it anyday of the week.

PowerWagon: HEMI engine, solid axles with electronic sway-bar disconnect in the front (very cool), full lockers front & rear, BFG AT KO 35" tires, and full underbody armor.

Of course, i am not sure if your wife will like driving the PowerWagon around.

I seriously doubt there will be issues with a 2 year old LC 100 with 39kmiles.
If that is the case we all better get rid of our Toyotas now.

The 100s easily do 200k miles with no probs apart from normal maintenance. Ask then guys on ih8mud how many wheeling miles they have on their 100s and how many problems they have had.

If it is clean like Pitbull said, it wil run for many more years and miles.

Set down with the wife and the used LC will cost $9000 more then a new sport 4runner and cost more for upkeep and will not provide us with anything more then we need from the 4runner. Leather is a negative to my wife, she works for a large companion animal welfare group. She wants to take my Silver 2004 4runner she loves my 4runner. Now I also love the 4runner and normally we don't share cars that often so if I want one I will need to buy another one. I don't want a car, and a used BMW SUV is asking for trouble, like Thai mentioned. Looks like I might be the owner of 2 4runners before the week is out. I will get a different color, same color would be too weird. Maybe in a few years I will want to put out the $$$ for the used LC, if gas isn't $4 per gallon

How about Tacoma TRD 4wd?? The only bad things about Tacoma: rear drum brakes and part-time 4wd system (instead of Multi-mode or Full-time systems in 4runner).

Since you are leaning toward the 4Runner, I think you have made the correct choice. Since your wife doesn't want leather, why don't you give her the sport and you get a Limited? There is a another curveball for you!

I like the sport wheels and hood scoop plus I could add after market leather to the SE for about $1000 but would hate to put leather on the crappy OEM seats Are the seats different in the limited or are they the same seats that you get on the SR5 and SE only covered with leather? If they are different (better) then the upgrade to limited might be worth the price.

Get a Suburu WRX STi

Since you liked the 350Z, i hate to see a sports car guy own 2 SUV's.
The Suburu is a champ rally car that gives most 2 seater sports cars a run for their money, turbo'd over 300hp you would be hard pressed to keep up with one in your 350z in the twisties and it rallies with the best and seats 4-5. It's about the same price also.

Limiteds come with 8-way Power adjustable driver's seat and 4-way power passenger's seat with heating control. The way the leather is wrapped on the Limiteds is also different from the cloth. The back of the seat has a recessed seat pocket (looks like it just snaps in) whereas the cloth seats have zippers on each side and do not have the recessed pocket.

I would definately go for a new 4Runner. A LC is still one of the vehicles I'd like to own, but I'm not sure how happy I would be not knowing how the previous owner drove the thing.

I wouldn't say that the structure of the seat is different, but the leather is much more comfortable in my opinion. It is more plush and I find it easier to get a comfortable with the power controls. In addition, you are also getting heated seats on the Limited. When you add aftermarket leather, I think you will have zippers on the side of the seats as well.

Yeah $9K is a lot for the difference.

Maybe one day get a LC. At the current gas price trend they might pay you to take one in a few years.

I do want the VVTi. I get a kick when I read about the RR Sport that sells for $70K weighes 5400lbs and has a 300 hp engine with only 315 lbs of torque and the mag's think its a fast machine and sporty and can handle almost any off road condition (They do comment that the Lexus GX470 could likely keep up with the RR Sport). For half the price the 4runner gives a heck of a lot better power to weight ratio and is built in the top automotive plant in the world by the top automotive manufacture in the world I think that means (top quality) SUV in the world. I know that the Range Rover Sport has nice leather, more sound deadening insultation and some trick features but not for my $70K compared to the Toyota SE V8 AWD listing at around $35K. Are people just nuts or have more money then sense???

Pitbull, the funny part is the 4Runner has a faster 0-60 time than the GX470 as well. You don't read in any magazine that the 4Runner is one of the fastest true SUV's on the market. A 0-60 time in the low to mid 7's is faster than many luxury sedans on the market.

I don't want to generalize, but I think the main reason that a person would take a 70K Range over a 35K Toyota is status. It is more presitgous to drive around in a vehicle with a Range badge than a Toyota badge. In addition, people see famous movie stars drive around in Range Rovers. I know when I make such a big decision such as in buying a car, I like to see what that extra money is buying me and if I really need it. I don't care what the badge on the vehicle says, I just want to be satisfied with my purchase!
