Hey guys...so before I get flamed, yes, I have searched the forum for an answer. I have only seen this discussed in older generations such as 4th, and 3rd gen.
In performing my oil change today, I noticed some faint white residue under the oil cap (see pics below). There was no sludge in the dipstick, nor any white sludge when draining the oil (standard black dirty oil look). Through research, I've found out with short trips in the cold and long oiler filler necks like ours, can produce this. More or less the oil heats up but oil filler neck stays colder which produces condensation to start building up under the cap. This condensation produces the white residue. Truck drives the same, no dash warnings. I am assuming this is normal, but just rather check with everyone else. This is also my first truck I am maintaining myself, rather than paying a dealer or service center for oil changes.
Background info. Truck is a 2011 TE with 31,000 miles on it, this would be my 3 or 4th time changing oil in the truck myself. I like to change at the 5k-7k time frame as I occasionally tow a trailer, have a TRD oiled air filter installed (my oil seemed dirtier ever since I instilled that filter), and my frequent business trips leave the truck sitting for a month or two without any love. Always change with 6.6qts of Royal Purple 0w-20, and use the TRD oil filter.
What do you guys think? Has anyone seen this on their 5thGen.
