Small updates -

Tundra brake upgrade (231mm) has been complted thanks to Armorology.

Going to be doing the Andy MOD when I do the rear axle swap so I did some searching and picked up the 'trac off' switch from a 97 Toyota Camry (I don't think I've seen anyone use this switch before).

I'm playing with a few idea where to install the switch:

1) in the factory knock-out (fits just fine).

2)Under the radio in the little cubby.

I'm partial to second one since I'm toying with installing the rear locker switch there and possible moving the 'center diff lock switch' to this location as well and just make up a custom switch panel.

An impact driver made quick work of the disassembling everything and saved me from doing more damage to my shoulder. Hopefully, in the next week or so I'll have it all cleaned-up ready for paint.

I think I'm going to keep both switches here and just make up a little panel for them since I'll probable be adding a few more switches in the future. :biggrin2:
 
Been thinking about the axle swap. Do I:

A. Clean-up (remove rust and paint)the salvaged axle and swap it in, I've slowly started to do this.

or

B. Just swap the 3rd member

I know A. would be the easier of the (2) installs but if I went with B. I wouldn't have to refinish the axle, could install sooner and I'd probable have an easier time getting rid of an axle that is already to have an elocker installed than a stock axle.

In either case I wouldn't be doing the install, it will probable be going over to Armorology for the work.

What are your guys thoughts.
 
Quit playing with your switches and put the damn axle in already! :fro:

(I know you've got the shoulder, so pay some buddies w/beer, or whatever it takes. We need more '01-'02 4Runners locked up around here.

EDIT... you posted seconds before I did. I say do whatever you think is easier. Cleaning up an axle goes pretty quick with a wire brush and some 3M abrasive pads, and the actual swap took me two afternoons, taking my time... SOLO.

I think that modding the existing housing while it's under the truck will be trickier than you think, an cleaning out the inside of the housing is much easier if it's loose and you can move it around.

But... If you're paying Armorology to turn wrenches and deal w/the hassle, I guess the only issue is the fatness of your bankroll.

I'm just going to stick with swapping the axles.

I'm going to try and finish cleaning up the axle tomorrow. I have most of the serious rust taken off thanks to a dremel and about 10 sanding wheels I just need to go back and touch it up in a few spots.

It looks as though you have very little rake...which I thought was uncommon for the SS 1.2 What notch are you running on the billys?

Good question. I'll have to look when I get my 4runner back since I never really looked at how Steve set them up.

Kenwood radio - I cant stand the current one that's in it.
New drivers sideview mirror - the current one rattles like crazy. There's something broken in the pivot point and it drives me up the wall. I already replaced the passenger side mirror due to this as well but it sound like it was about to fall off going over any bump in the road.
